  • Anyone feel healthier?

With everything going on and stay in orders in place, does anyone actually feel healthier?

I can definitely feel it. I haven't weighed myself since March at the gym, but I'm pretty sure I'm slightly lighter, even though I could still do more cardio per week. Otherwise I still workout 5-6 times a week, plus bought a mountain bike for outside. With WFH I'm able to cook oatmeal at least 5 times a week, making other meals, taking multi vitamin and fish oil daily. Sleep is probably 6.5-7 hours so about the same. Doesn't hurt that work has been slow, and starting to pick up, so stress has been very minimal.

Curious how others healthy habits have increased or been modified for good.

Not really. All of my routines havent changed...although I have worked out a little more than when I go to my works gym. I have a garage gym and working at home, ill spend more time out there working out and "working."

During the early weeks of the pandemic, my habits were definitely worse. Being in healthcare, my job was outrageously stressful, very high anxiety state every day. As a result, I was not eating well or sleeping well or exercising regularly. Fortunately, things eventually settled down and have been much better lately. I've been more focused on eating well and getting back to exercising. With no gym to go to, it's been impossible to keep up my strength training routine but I've done what I can with the very limited bits of equipment we have at home. I have been walking and running more to try and compensate at least for the cardio stuff so that's good. Still, I hope gyms open up again relatively soon because I know my muscles and joints really need to get back to the routine I was on before.

        Mentally: No. lots of stressors

physically: just tired. Baby arrived end of March. Having to work from home (very fortunate) helps a ton.

I've been running alot more, and have been building up my distance toward a half-marathon in August (currently topping around 8-9 miles). I haven't weighed/measured myself, but I'm guessing I've lost ~10 lbs & 1 inch from my waist. So I'm happy with that.

But my boys are spending too much time inside, and we can't burn their energy down enough, so they're not sleeping well, and therefore I'm not sleeping well. Plus, I've basically not been working at all -- my family is/has been in the process of moving, so my previous unit didn't have anything for me to do. Now, my training unit brought me in 2 weeks early "just in case" we got quarantined, so I'm still doing nothing until my training starts next week. All of that means that my (thus our) stress level has been alot higher than normal (or healthy), and there have been alot more arguments about stupid, meaningless issues.

Bottom line: physically healthier, mentally/emotionally, not so much.

I did an expansion of my vegetable garden to assure more veggies easily available this summer and more to put away for the following months. Before starting that I was really out of shape and afraid I had gotten irrecoverably out of shape. Truly, I was bad off. I just took it a little bit at a time and now, thank God, I feel much better. It was hard, though, and I still need to improve both in strength and stamina.

I'm still going into work, but the lack of social activities is making me healthier. I had started adjusting my diet before covid, which I continued to a greater degree now, and not being able to engage in going out and other drinking type activities is making me healthier. No gym, but that's replaced by outdoor running and at home body weight exercises and dumbbells. I was never really fat before, but did take in 2 belt notches and am leaner outside the waistline. Like disney, I hope the gym comes back. My opinion is that too much outdoor running really isn't good for your body. It's harder on your joints.

In case anyone's wondering, I switched to a higher fiber diet with fish being the main meat, and main starch is quinoa. Hardly any fruits, too much sugar, plus I think certain green vegetables like broccoli is superior vitamin c wise with very little calories. Im drinking less too.

I love to cook, so that was definitely a factor for me at first. I was cooking every day, and making all kinda of stuff. But once my kitchen was all packed up for my move, it became alot easier to "behave" .... Lol

There's nothing wrong with cooking. if you're finding it unhealthier than eating out, it's probably more a function of what youre cooking and how much youre consuming than anything else. Not trying to judge.

On Jan 1st my goal was to lose 30 pounds for the year and start eating better. (Jan1 - March 14th I lost 6 pounds)

I have lost 20 pounds since I started WFH on March 14th. I have been walking between 6 and 9 miles/day. Have not eaten out since this has started. More conscious of what and how much I am eating. I am really starting to feel healthier but have a ways to go to get where I want to be! Nothing like a pandemic to really jump start things.

That's great! Keep it up. Over the last couple of years I've channeled workouts as being a healthy addiction for myself, and hope others do too.

In the beginning I was stressed out a lot staying at home still working at office and kids and DH. Now i'm WFH and it's easier. Mentally my health is back. Emotionally I'm more balanced now that I have more of a routine for the kids and myself and DH even. I put us all on a routine with school and work but it took a solid month of arguing and stress. I hadn't gained any weight but noticeably out of shape at the beginning of the covid. Now with all the walking and moving around the house I'm definitely getting fitter and 2 weeks ago I started adjusting my diet. I'm going to do the whole 30 in the next 30 days and we'll see what happens. More like cutting out the added sugar and the added dog walking back. Let's see how these next few months go. I really like this isolation in some ways.

My eating habits were getting bad for a while, but I'm doing a prolonged fast now, and I'm feeling a lot better.

No. I feel like crap since my gym closed. I can't wait for it to reopen
