I visit at least one buffet when ever I visit Las Vegas, usually at Caesars. With these being so poplar in Vegas I read that most that reopen will have a server at each station, sort of like at the meat carving station most of us have seen. It'll slow the process down but certainly safer.

Another alternative that will probably start occurring is pre-plated portions so you just grab a plate. Some buffets already did this for desserts, like a slice of cake, so they could do the same with a piece of chicken, a serving of pasta or veggies, or whatever. That would require less staff than personally serving everything.

I haven't eaten at a buffet since witnessing a hoard of elementary children at a Golden Coral. The chocolate fountain had to be the grossest thing I have ever seen.

Golden Corral is about as low as you can get on the buffet scale. I've been there a couple of times but it is pretty skeevy.

Not all buffets are like that, though. Sweet Tomatoes was great - clean, well maintained, and fresh. Most casino buffets are good and some are really quite excellent. Of course, there's generally very, very few if any children at those which helps (not that adults can't be disgusting but it's much less likely). The Golden Nugget in Atlantic City is owned by the same guy who owns the Landry restaurant group, Tilman Fertitta. They know how to make good food and it shows at their buffet (and other restaurants on property).

I'm not a huge buffet fan but man I'd like to have gone to a really nice one in vegas.

DH & I discovered Souplantation (same group as Sweet Tomatoes) long ago when we visited San Diego. We went a couple times because it was the healthy, easy, and not too expensive. I took my mom & brother to Sweet Tomatoes once when looking for a healthier-than-the-usual dine out option. It did my heart good to see my brother loading up a massive plateful of salad. His usual dine-out choice is a burger. Sorry to hear they are gone.
