Mission accomplished! That section of the room is now empty. Numerous things found new homes. A few items are either already listed for sale or give away or need to be listed. The table was listed on Buy Nothing and someone is coming by to get it in a couple of hours.

Next task: We have a tall CD rack in that room filled with CDs. We don't want to get rid of the CDs but there is absolutely no reason why that rack needs to be there. I'm going to put the discs into a box and give away the rack.

    • We gave away several items yesterday. Three more are getting picked up today.

Yesterday we also got a large cabinet from our Buy Nothing group that my wife is using to help better organize her sewing supplies so that will help with clutter too.

I dropped the prices on a couple of Marketplace listings. I may drop them again later today if there's still no interest. Otherwise, they'll get listed to give away.

I also put away a few things that have been sitting around for too long.

      • Yesterday was the last day of my 6-day staycation. I did more decluttering. I cleared off the top of a small shelving unit in the family room as well as the desk in there. Several more items were given away and 3 more are scheduled to be picked up today. I did pull a few things off of Marketplace and listed them on Buy Nothing instead since I had gotten no bites to sell them. One item is probably going to end up at Goodwill as nobody even wants it for free (a CD rack).

I'm quite satisfied with what got done during my time off. Still much to do but we definitely made some nice progress.

        • While sorting through more of my mom's stuff, I found 2 nice rings in with some paperwork from my grandparent's estate that Mom didn't even know were in there. Up to her to decide what to do with them.

Discovering the occasional treasure (monetary and sentimental) provides occasional respite from what is a pretty grueling task.

          • last week I donated like 3 bags of stuff from my garage. So nice. Too bad I still can't park in there with all the stuff for our shed and stuff to organize.

            • 2 more boxes plus a CD rack went to Goodwill today. Another item is getting picked up shortly from our Buy Nothing group.

              • Just cleared out:
                1) my old Cordless Worx Blower and Weed Wacker + 3 battery's and a charger. (Sold for $60 online)
                2) Old Fishtank + Fish Gear (Sold for $60 online)
                3) About to sell my old "carlo Rossi" wine bottles. ($2 to 3 each) <---- I always let these build up over time. And then sell like 8 to 10 of them, and people ALWAYS buy them. They're great big glass jugs for crafts, brewing, or other random stuff. And it feels good to recycle actively.

                • I emptied 4 boxes from my garage of stuff. It was all my mom's china and it's in the cabinets to be used. Finally. Only took me 2 years to unpack.

                  • I didn't think of this in terms of clutter, but cypher1 pointed it out to me.

I combined two financial accounts, moving our holdings at Heartland Funds into our Vanguard brokerage account. I didn't buy or sell anything. I just did an in kind transfer.

I'm old school and prefer paper statements, so this means I will no longer get separate statements from Heartland as that fund info will now be a part of our Vanguard account.

                    • I cancelled our cable TV service today, just keeping internet.

That means a bunch of equipment and wires are now gone.

                      Family room:
                      1 cable box
                      2 coaxial cables
                      1 power supply
                      1 remote control

                      Bedroom:
                      1 cable box
                      2 coaxial cables
                      1 cable splitter
                      1 HDMI cord
                      1 power supply
                      1 remote control

Not only are we saving money on the TV service, but we'll also save a bit on electricity since the two boxes are no longer plugged in 24/7. We also won't ever have to replace those remote control batteries again.

The one thing we lost in the family room was the clock from the cable box. We'll have to pick up a cheap clock to stick in there.

ETA: This also means one less bill each month, so that helps too.

                      • This one comes from our daughter. She gave me her Nintendo DS Lite today and asked if I could sell it on ebay for her. So the game console, 3 games, and 2 chargers. I just listed it. They sell pretty well so hopefully in a week it will be sold and we can ship it out.

                        • I got rid of my old crock pot and replaced it with a new one and gave away the old one. I gave away all my old dishes since I am not officially using my mom's china!!!!

DH sold some tools he bought to build our shed including hardy plank cutters etc. He sold and mailed it off. NICE. He also sold a receiver he bought and decided against. Our garage is about 1 month from being able to get parked in if not sooner! WOOT!

                          • I just listed 4 items in our Buy Nothing group and 1 on Marketplace. Hopefully they’ll all attract some interest.

ETA: 2 of the Buy Nothing items are already claimed and will probably get picked up tomorrow.

ETA: 3 claimed. One already picked up.

                            • I decided to go in the basement last night with the goal of finding one item to give away. I found two. One was picked up today and the other should get picked up tomorrow.

I went down again tonight and found another item that I just listed.

I'm going to try and get in the habit of finding at least an item per day.

Also, the item I listed on ebay for my daughter sold and I just packed it up. I'll ship it on Tuesday.

Bit by bit, slow and steady progress.

                              • Gave my sister one of my monitors for her kid's PC. Tossed out some socks with holes, and old pair of beat of jeans. Not many items to go through. I'll probably wait till this Feb to check again.
