  • Any 1 Percenters In This Forum?

I am curious if anyone from the top 1% income earners hang out in a forum like this. If you do, are you still frugal and live no different than anybody else not making such income?

Please look at the location map to determine if your household income is in the top 1%.

Hard to say...it varies by state.

I'm definitely not in the 1%, but I'm curious to see if anyone responds who is!

Well, I think I might have been in the bottom 1% several years in my twenties.

I believe the news media picked the wrong people to shame. It's the 1% of the 1% who bought the politicians..not Drs. Lawyers, and small business owners.

America IS the 1%: You need just $34,000 annual income to be in the global elite... and HALF the world's richest people live in the U.S.

Weird Tolkienish Figure is correct. If you only make $34k, you're in the top 1% globally. I couldn't find a full break down, but I'd be willing to bet that even if you're at the poverty level of $11k, you're still in the top 25% world wide. With the exception of the truly destitute (mentally ill homeless), you most likely still have a roof, food, and probably a smart phone, never mind cable tv, a car, and air conditioning, regardless of your income.

I'm in the top 1%. Can't speak to frugal as we are not what most would consider frugal.

I stay because I need an anchor to keep me from going back to stupid.

Thanks for posting, Tom. I knew you were in the 1% but didn't want to "call you out" .

I think your story is a great illustration, though, of how more money doesn't automatically make you have great money management skills. There are so many examples of celebrities and sports figures and business tycoons earning millions and ending up broke. The fundamentals of personal finance apply no matter how much you make.

                      Individually, no.

As a household I believe we have approached being in the top 3-5% but need to dig deeper into the data.
                      History will judge the complicit.

Not even close. We have a level of happiness that I would not want to jeopardize for more income (the option has come up), and are thankful for what we have.

If I could, I would trade my 1% income for a better quality of life. I have run the numbers and I might do just that in the future. I am paying for my very poor financial decisions in the past. I feel blessed to have the income to get back on track but it does come at a cost.

What quality of life Tom? What makes you say that?

I think we'd be in the 1% if we wanted to be but for quality of life we chose not to be. And even now we're not sure we care to be.

Family time. I like my job, but I travel every week. That is getting old.
