My husband and I went on a trip to Ireland two years ago, but that was before we had our son. We're planning 2 long weekend trips in the near future, but both of those are to attend family functions (wedding and baby shower). I think that we won't have our next real vacation for another 2 years or so. We will save for it in the meantime... I'm hoping not to spend more than $3000.

I got my vacation book for Peru to do some volunteer work for an orphanage for 2 weeks in october. I'm excited about this trip. I currently work oversea so going oversea is not new to me, but I have never done any volunteer oversea work before. So this will be a good experience for me. The only thing bad is the bank account is hurting a bit, since I work oversea I am making several trip across the world so my plane ticket is expensive.

I would LOVE to do something like this but I always get hung up one the cost. I understand needing volunteers to not be a drain on resources for the organization you're helping but some of these programs are outrageously priced. Very cool opportunity! You'll have to let us know how it goes

Yea it’s a bit expensive, but will be a cool experience. I did contacted former volunteer that went and all had positive feedback, so I am looking forward to this trip. I will definitely let you know how it went.

Our big trip this year is a week long camping trip to some high mountain lakes only accessible by well-equipped 4x4's. It's quite an experience getting up there, and if you're like me, you revel in the fact that it's unlikely that you'll see anyone else up there all week.

It's not the most sophisticated or trip traveled "abroad". We have plans to knock a few things off of our wish lists including traveling Australia, visiting Greenland, and also making a few trips to Alaska. We hope to accomplish at least two of these in the next 5 years or so.

But in this first year after buying a new home, I'm going to appreciate and enjoy a relatively simple camping trip that's long on time and relaxtion, and won't gouge the wallet.
                History will judge the complicit.

Went to Aruba for the 4th of July. LOVED it. Ended up getting flight for $700 round trip and hotel at a $1,000 discount. I called the Marriott Vacation Club and said I was interested in a timeshare. They said come down to Aruba for a week and enjoy $1,000 off the hotel. Only stipulation is you have to spend half a day listening to them pitch you the timeshare. At the end of the presentation you simply say no and you're finished.

My thoughts exactly! I there was sarcasm there because Hawaii is my favorite out of all the places I've ever been on vacation.

Well if you live in CA...its not out of the ordinary to hop on a plane and be to any of the Hawaiian islands in less than 5 hours. Theres always deals from the west coast...less than $300 round trip per person...so really you could go there every year. Hotels/condo rentals are really cheap. Around $100/night. When we go, we only use our rooms to shower/sleep for the most part. The islands are so beautiful you'll be out and about all day. And yes, we all know Oahu is a cluster...its still a neat place. I recommend Maui or the Big Island though. Never been to the others yet.

We've been to Puerto Rico and Napa/Sf/Yosemite earlier this year. We're headed to Glacier NP and Banff next month. Im pretty excited. That will be the last of the trips for the year. The only reason we took so many is all of the airfare for 2 people were free...thanks SW and your companion pass!

Something that is a 5-hour flight away is a pretty special trip in my book.

was thinking the same! 5 hours will get me to either coast, or the Caribbean and I could take a lot of special trips between here and any of those direction!

Took the family to Side, Turkey this year. Gorgeous beeches, Mediterranean Sun, and great resorts/hotels. also visited the ruins of the old Roman town and the Temple of Apollo.

We always go in early July (take the kids out of school for a week... they're 8 and 4 so not missing out on anything) in order to save money. We checked before we booked and had we gone 4weeks later the cost was nearly double!!

I'm leaving in 2 weeks for a Western Caribbean cruise with mom and sister. I'm thrilled to be getting away, but unsure about how I'm going to feel about our locale. I'm not a big beach fan, since I burn incredibly easily.

We've cruised the Caribbean 3 times and I've loved every minute of it. We are not beach people either but there is so much to see and do on the islands besides the beach. In fact, on our 3 cruises, all together we spent a total of about 2 hours on a beach one time.
