  • What's the best job you ever had?

Today's lunch conversation with the girls was about the old jobs we had. In college, I was a lifeguard and taught swim lessons. I loved that job, although I'm not sure I would still want to be doing it now. I don't mind my current job, but it isn't my dream job either. A lot of people seem to be working in jobs like that, or even worse, jobs they hate, but they need the paycheck.

What is the best job you ever had? Do you like you current job or would you change it if you could?

My current job wins, both in terms of pay and job satisfaction. No benefits though. The best benefits I ever has was while with the UFCW, at Safeway. One of the worst jobs though. The pay was decent, but I absolutely hated the job.

Easily for me in my early 20s, working at Gateway as a service tech with my 3 friends. Just awesome experience, great memories, and was fun to carpool 3 out of 5 days per week.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

tomHole, that is fantastic. Being a Navy Test Pilot must have been great. thank you for your service.

My best job? Probably just the one I have now. It's the people that make the job in my mind. I am doing home restoration work at the moment. Learning a lot and lovin the people I work with.

I am working the best job I've ever had as an IT manager. I could not be happier. Contrarily the worst "job" I've ever had was being an NCAA athlete. I sometimes wonder if it wasn't worth the scholarship.

I was a volunteer Firefighter/EMT for a period of about 5 years. In terms of having fun, developing useful skills, and having a job with personal meaning and fulfillment...it was the best job I ever had.

Best job was the 12 years I worked as a summer camp counselor. I would still be doing it today if I could but once I hit the 3rd year of med school, I didn't have my summers off anymore. I was the only counselor who wasn't a teacher since they are typically the ones who are free for the summer.

That's cool. My company uses the stage 1 motor from the minuteman 1 program to build targets for the ballistic missile defense program. The long range target we build uses 2 stage 1 motors and an orbis-1 for stage 3. That's an impressive sight to behold.

I guess I could mention what I do. I am a massage therapist. My main job is at a very small massage studio with two rooms and two therapists working at a time. It is a 30 minute walk from my apartment, a very laid back environment, and we get steady business, but not so much that it's overwhelming. The owner is very easygoing, and it's a great work environment. I am also a substitute at the airport, where I pick up 1-2 shifts a week doing chair massage for 5-6 hours at a time. It's a much longer commute, but I love my coworkers and it's a very fun job. Neither position offers benefits, but business is fairly steady, pay is good, and I enjoy being at work.
