We have a walk-in hair salon with online check-in so you never have to wait more than a few minutes. Average wait time at our francishes is 6 minutes. For online checkin, it's about 2 minutes. Our haircuts are $14 (which isn't free but close), and a style is an extra $10.

At first, our clientele was mostly children and men. Now it's 50% women. They figured out our stylists are pretty darn good.

Because our price is so low, people assume that...

    1. We hire recent cosmetology grads. Nope. We've done that twice in 6 years of operations. Most of our stylists are highly experienced and just wanted a steady paycheck and schedule versus booth rent.

    2. People also assume that we get in a rush. Nope. But the fact is, the typical hair cut shouldn't take more than 17 minutes or you're wasting the CUSTOMER's valuable time. That's disrespectful. There are exceptions of course.

We have one lady come in every other week at about 10 minutes till close. She drives up in this long BMW and looks both ways before she walks in so that no one sees her patronizing a walk-in salon. She's been coming since 2011.

The newest fad at barber shops and salons is "free beverages while you wait!" My question is, why the heck should you have to wait to get a haircut? People don't go to the salon to get a soda - they go to get a haircut! You won't have time for any beverages at our place.

If you want to pay $50 or $100 for a haircut and wait for an hour on some smelly fake leather couch with magazines stacked a foot high, go for it!

I haven't paid for a haircut in 16 years. My friends used to cut mine until 8 years ago when I just did it myself to save on time. I usually trim mine every 7-10 days, 1/8" sides/back, blended in with 1.25" on top.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

I always find it amusing when an "old" thread gets closed. Next thing you know, another thread with the same subject emerges.

I consider a topic such as the price of a haircut pretty relevant whether it was posted today or ten years ago.

                $45 + $10 tip = $55

I'm a public speaker so I can't be cutting my own hair. Kudos to those of you who can get away with it.

How often do you have to pay that?

I used to cut my boys hair and my husbands, until I got to not be able to stand up long enoug. Hubby was at his again last night. I could see the hair in the sink. While I never went to barber school, and at times didn't make the best cut in the world, I had a very limited amount of guys to learn to cut their hair. Nor did I have to be creative. Since it was the same way every time, you just get used to it. My sons would probably pay me to stay away from their hair now, but we couldn't afford barber cuts for them back when they were little. I ended up having my mom cut my hair for years. She can no longer do it, and even though I have grown my hair out, I go to a professional now if needed.

As a guy, a haircut be as little as free (clippers in the backyard), $6 for a low-cost barber, or $10-$12 for most barbers I see. But then, I get a haircut every month, so I spend $140/yr, whereas I know most of you ladies only need a cut every 4-6 months (if even that)

After my initial reaction, I just had to comment... hahaha
                    Lol this!

I usually spend about $16-18 including a tip once every month or two. My wife also buzzes and trims my hair sometimes. Sometimes I do it myself.

My wife spends about $60 including a wash and a tip. More if she is dying her hair. To NeatDesign's point I don't understand why it's socially acceptable to charge women so much more $$.

How many times have you had a bad cut? Getting pissed at the barber or stylist, mad at yourself for not speaking up, wasted good money, etc. Well cutting my own I know exactly what I'm getting because I'm doing it. Not to mention the time it takes to drive to and from, wait times while there, etc. DIY is the best.

I picked out a man who's haircuts involve running the buzzer all over his noggin with no attachments. He even lets the 2 year-old do it for him as long as I look it over and get the spots he misses. His haircuts are free.

Mine are even cheaper. I MADE $200 on my latest haircut. My sister cut it for free and I listed it online to sell. I guess I lost a few dollars in shipping and I probably should have tipped my sister (oops!), but I'm pretty sure I've got the cheapest haircut on the forum.

It's been 8 months, so I'm due for a trim, so I guess I'll have to visit my sister again. Don't worry, I'll tip her this time.

What the heck does that mean?

I don't understand what you being a public speaker has to do with whether or not you cut your own hair.

Probably if it looks bad it matters.

Um actually as a woman who likes short hair it can be very expensive to maintain a short but easy haircut. Yes I could cut it every 4-6 months and I do it now with the mommy ponytail. But before I would spend $200 every 3 months for highlights to cover white and then every 6-8 weeks to cut it short. Even then I probably should have gone more often than that for $40.

Any other women do short hair? Don't you find it's a lot of time to cut? But super easy to live with. I love it when I'm not getting it cut but the time to go to the salon and cut it is painful now.

Up to 3-4 years ago I kept my hair short until I couldn't afford to go get it done since that money was getting taken by the lady that comes and cleans for me. Usually I would get my hair done every 6 weeks but the money goes now to my cleaning lady. So now I have long hair. Hubby trimmed off a bit about a year ago. He didn't quite understand how to take off an inch though. Once in a while if I haven't been up to it, I have paid someone to wash this mop.

Of course. That's true for almost everyone, especially if you work. My wife cut her own hair for years. Nobody at any of her jobs ever had any issue with it. In fact, people were often shocked and impressed when they learned that.
