When I first got sick, everything went by the wayside, but as I hadn't been working since March and it was now January and I was having a halfway decent day, so I went to one of those chop shops. She washed or wet my hair (can't rember which, other than it was wet) and then hacked at it. Then said okay that will be $10. She didn't pick up the blow dryer once, she didn't ask if I wanted it blown dry. Nothing. No extra services pushed on me (isn't that how they make their money?) I paid my money and walked outside to remember that it was 14 degrees out and I had a head of wet hair. When Hubby came home from work I combed it as best as I could and came out and asked him how he liked. As a husband who hadn't been married a year yet, he tried to be tactful and said "maybe if you combed it it would look better." !!! Worst haircut ever. Not only did she not get a tip, she lost even more money by not finishing it off by drying it. Nor was it because she was so busy. I was the only customer in the place. Before I had gotten sick I had been paying somewhere around $60+ if I got highights. I had only gone to this place as I didn't need to make an appointment as my health always tried to push apts. out of the way. Never again!

Ah yes bad haircuts. I used to go to the places that have students "practice" on live people for a discounted price. The students had instructors to assist but I remember getting some bad haircuts in order to save a few bucks.

I like my hair short so I get it cut every 4-6 weeks. I go to Great Clips and it's $13. If I tip, it's another $2.

Now that I'm starting to get grays, I color at home with Henna. The henna powder costs me about $35 a year.

Good old fashioned barber shop nearby, only $10 for a haircut (plus tip), and I can be in and out of there in about ten minutes.
