Echo what MonkeyMama said about the passion for personal investing.

I started my career working in IT for a large investment firm and wasn't being charged commissions at the time. Once I had left that firm, I rolled over what I had saved into an IRA with the same firm and noticed it sitting there looking at me not doing much of anything. That motivated me to find out what was going on and I uncovered how hard I was being ripped off through front end-loaded funds and commissions. I immediately joined forums for help and quickly rolled over to Vanguard. At that point I went on to learn anything and everything I could and continued to fine tune my retirement and savings. I realized that I have quite a passion for doing so and at this point really do believe I missed my true calling career-wise. Once I have migrated out of IT, there is no doubt that I will try to help people understand what is happening with their money in some capacity.

Came here to learn what I could do about my SL and possibly if it was a good idea for me to put a down payment on a house and consolidate my SL or get into a reduced payment plan. Came to find out I didn't want to do any of that made a bad decision about getting a new car (paid off in a little over 1 yr because of this site) and that I made a good decision about setting up my ROTH and that Fidelity was not a bad choice.

Things have changed and now its about paying down my debt and setting my retirement up so I wont have to be so worried when I get a little older and other life changing things happen like kids or anything unforseen.

Didn't discover this site till after I bought a house just over 4 years ago. Originally I just wanted to be more organized with managing bills/paperwork and it grow to something more. While I thought I was decent with saving, I didn't realize how far off I was for needing more discipline and really locking down my priorities in life.

While I don't think about money all the time, or have to track every dollar, for me it's piece of mind. Meaning having x amount of months of cash saved in EF, putting aside 10-15% of base pay into retirement, while still living a simple, comfortable life style, with only a mortgage for debt.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

I'm new to here but I came looking for help in figuring out what to do about my savings, debts, and retirement. I have managed okay but I'm getting older and have whipped out a decent amount of debt on my own.

I'm glad I came as reading all of this has certainly given me a realistic road map that I can follow even in my current situation. It also helped me realize I'm not as off track as I thought I was.

What brought me here originally was a question my parents had for me about their retirement. What kept me here was my own massive credit card debt. What keeps me here now is the good discussion on all sorts of aspects personal finance. And, I find that, from time to time, I may have something constructive to add to the conversation.

I found the forum while completing Dave Ramseys Financial Peace University, I guess I was just looking for other like minded savers.

I have always found personal finance/investing interesting. My wife and I have gone from $13,000 a year in 2004 to currently being in the top 5% of US houshold incomes. We continually had the same problems regardless of our increasing income until we started managing our money better...even though I thought when I make 50K a year it will go away, or 100K, or......

I'm here because I was struggling with our household finances and faced some pretty big financial challenges with regards to a house. We're doing a lot better, some with and some against the advice of the folks here. Now, with incomes better than ever, I'm trying to focus on ways to direct that to where it counts the most.

I came here years ago and I am still here now because I have a lot of anxiety about money but I am not naturally frugal. This board helps me keep my priorities straight. Also I just enjoy the voyeurism of hearing about other people's financial lives.

Cause I'm poor and always broke. Perhaps I can learn something here ...
