  • How much does the average person spend on gas each month?

How much does everyone here spend on gas each month? Are there certain months when you spend more than other months? Does the changing price of gas make a huge difference in the amount you pay each month? What kind of car do you drive? What percentage of your overall budget it? I know these are a lot of questions. Sorry.

I'm trying to come up with a good gas budget and I'm just trying to get a good idea what others are paying for gas on a monthly basis and how much it fluctuates.

I would say about $20.00 lol. That is because I rarely drive. The place I need to go each day happens to be very near.

I generally top off my tank once a week. I spend right around $125 a month. I drive 6 miles each way to work and I drive around town for various reasons a few times a week. Gas price fluctuations don't have much impact on my budget.

I pay between 160-180 per month, filling up around once a week. Work commute is close, but I drive a lot on the weekends. Main vehicle is a 03 toyota matrix XRS which requires premium fuel. Winter months monthly gas is 180-200 for CRV since I use a remote starter to warm up car.

Even with a short commute I don't really pay attention to gas prices, or fill only a portion of my tank. I focus more on making sure my cars are getting a certain mpg average per tank.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

I spend between $250-$300/month depending on how much driving I do on my off days.

I spend between $160-$180/month. I have a Honda Civic that I use only for my 100 mile/day round trip commute. I also drive a Toyota Highlander for any other driving. The amount I spend on gas doesn't vary that much unless I decide to travel for a 3 day mini vacation over the weekend.

Since I am retired, I am not an avg person. I do drive 250-300 mi/month vs. the 100-125 mi/DAY (500-600 mi/month) when I worked. I have spent between $35-50/month over the last several months.

Gas is VERY $$$ here in metro Chicago. Yes, gas prices DO vary by season. Higher in summer for vacation/travel/outside activities. If you track prices you WILL see a jump any holiday weekend.

I drive a VW Golf TDI (diesel), so I get exceptional gas mileage (42-45 mpg normally). I drive about 650-750mi each month, which is basically just more than 1 tank of gas for me. So I normally spend ~$50-$60 each month on gas, depending slightly on the gas prices & how much extra running around town I do. Prices for Mt diesel does have a slight budget impact, but nothing outrageous. Prices fluctuate up & down, but my budget is able to accept the $5 variance pretty seamlessly.

I don't think there's an "average" since it depends on what you drive and how much you drive. If you drive an SUV and have a long commute, you're going to use a lot more than if you drive a Prius and work from home.

Personally, I drive a Camry and work 8 miles from home. I get gas once every 2-3 weeks.

Are there times of year when I use more than others? Yes. We drive to Florida for vacation every year - in August the past 5 years. That's 2,500 miles roundtrip so about 20% of my annual driving occurs during that trip.

About $180 - costs $45 to fill up each week. 20 mile (each way) commute and get ~20 MPG.

Nothing. I walk most places and take the train to one job and the bus to the other.

I averaged $80 a month this year, but I work from home. Last year when I was commuting to the office, about 40 miles a day round trip, I averaged $245 a month. I drive a gmc terrain, and it averages 20 mpg according to the computer that keeps track of it, and it has about 17 gallon tank.
