    I think I win

    70-75 hours a week...

40 hours in my office and 30-35 at the restaurant. Somehow I manage to balance everything but it really forces you to not only budget your finances but also your time.

"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

Maybe I'm pretty well off here (judging by the responses) but I work 45 hours a week. I do bits and pieces outside of work hours, mainly research so I'm worth more.

DH: 40 hours but works through most lunches so about 45 hours with a 3.5 hour round trip commute. He leaves the house around 6:45am and gets home around 7:30pm.

I leave the house MUCH later. I don't function at all without sleep. I do some house hold chores in the morning (laundry, etc). Leave the house around 10am, run errands that are work related - bank and post office mostly - and get to work 11am to 11:30am. I have an hour drive each way.

I TRY to leave around 6:45pm to 7pm to make it home around 8pm to have dinner with DH but usually have to stick around until 7:30pm to 8pm depending on evening appts. DH eats first in that case if he is hungry. 90% of my appts are after 5:30pm when other people are off work. Wouldn't work having my 8 hours earlier in the day.

So, about 7-8 hours a day with a 2 hour round trip commute. Out the door around 10am, home anywhere from 7:45pm to 9:15pm.

Thank goodness my kids are older (11 and 14), are responsible students and don't need me to nag them to complete their homework and assignments. If they need help with something, we help them after we get home. We see them for about 1-3 hours nightly and on the weekends. The 11yo goes to bed around 10:30pm, the 14yo around 11pm, and we crash between 10:30pm and midnight. Good thing my DH can function on 6 hours of sleep!

Typical week is 45-50 hours, salaried. Rarely need to work weekends except for travel or to catch up when stuff stacks up. Works well for me.

I feel sorry for your kids. Although they are older now, are they getting the attention they need? I sincerely hope this wasn't the schedule when they were younger.

9am-1pm for a company that I do contract work for, and a few hours in the evening for my personal side work. (I'm a web designer.)

Yup, family time is important but to make family happy, money is more important. I work for 60 hours a week as extra 20 hours manage me to earn the same income I could in the regular hours.

I average 70/ week continuously through the year nowadays. 40 hours at a regular job, 30 for business. Back when I worked in private industry, I saw 70 hours minimum and up to 100 hours during busier months (70+30). It's a lot more manageable now that I have a straight 40hr/week job.

Do I think 70/week is "too much"? Nope, as I don't have kids and don't watch TV. Probably the 2 biggest "non productive" time sinks. I find successfully doing business to be far more rewarding than keeping up with the kardashians.

I agree with this. Unfortunately, if daddy and/or mommy isn't there most of the time, they may not appreciate the sacrifices that went into enjoying what they do have.

About 45 hours/week but I'm on a salary. I also work for myself about 20 hours per week doing futures trading and web development.
