Re: Do you dress like you have money??

Oh don't tell my dh, he'd probably start calling me that.

He'd love me to dress trendy & all cutsey. But we can't afford to break our budget over one top or pair of jeans here & there from the mall. & Unfortuantly I'm not going sifting thru all the size s-m-L's @ the thrift stores when I need plus sizes, so it's a waste of time for me to even look. As people usually donate their small clothes no their big stuff

The bills, grocery $, & kids come first the rest is optional details I'm afraid.

Not me. First of all, I'm plus sized, so there's a very limited selection, which is probably good because I do love clothes!

I buy basic clothes (jeans, casual shirts & sweaters, etc.) I have a few nice outfits, but most of the time my clothes are decent but unremarkable.

It's the same with my husband. He is supposed to keep a couple of pairs of jeans and a few shirts set aside, NOT to be used for work. But he always ends up wearing them to work! It is so frustrating when we need to dress nice to go somewhere, and we have to scramble to find clothes that aren't stained and ripped.

I have always hated clothes shopping, so my family and I don't have very many clothes. We usually just have clothes from WalMart. But we recently got a new Kohl's store nearby. They have some nice clothes, and I've bought a few things there. The prices aren't bad.

Like Pearl, I'm plus sized so often the selection is limited. Plus, I am seeing things out there that I wouldn't wear -- too young or too bold. So many of the plus size materials are huge floral designs. I don't want to look like a wall!

I have bought some basic pieces, mostly solid colors, that I wear to work. As an educator who often has to make presentations, I try to be a little dressier when at work. When I'm off, it's usually a top and jeans or shorts. I don't wear sandals because they tend to rub the top of my feet and make them bleed. I figure in a way that's good -- I don't have to paint my toenails since I don't wear sandals!

I'm also old enough to remember having to wear dresses to school when I was a kid. I didn't do the gloves so maybe that was a regional necessary item.

Rob, I had to wear dresses to school when i was a kid too. My husband does have some decent pants, shirts and shorts that he wears when we go out. It is just his work clothes that look so bad. right now, I am sitting here in my holey jeans and shirt with a rip under the arm. They are the coolest (meaning temperature wise) things I own.

Re: Do you dress like you have money??

I'm not expensively dressed, but I'm an expensive dresser.

Where I spend money is on laundry and maintenance. I tend to be painfully neat and fussy about fit and finish. Shoes spit-shined, khakis starched with knife-edge creases, button-down casual shirts also starched. (I like starch. ) I normally spend more on commercial laundering than I do on clothing, but I also look well turned out.

Um, considering the fact that I'm down to a single pair of socks that doesn't have holes in them... no.

(Wow, I can't believe I just admitted that. It's on my to-fix list, I swear!)

If my clothes are confortable, warm, and not indecent (e.g. have holes in inappropriate places ), I'll continue wearing them. Because honestly, I can't be bothered about how I look. I've always been of the opinion that if someone is judging me based on how I look/dress, then I wouldn't care about their opinion of me, anyway. This view is heavily influenced by having gone to a snotty, rich private all-girls high school where fashion = status, as well as having a mother that constantly tried to doll me up to 'attract boys'.

I'll probably have to be dragged kicking and screaming to the clothing store when I need a more professional wardrobe, but thankfully, that time has not come yet. I still get to spend my days in a lab coat. Plus, who wants to spill carcinogenic chemicals or get mice pee on a nice shirt? Not me.

She spent that much each month in clothes.
Thats outrageous!!! Yet I was like that for the past year.. not quite so bad.. but my hubby wasn't serious about buying me a better home or making our lives better because he is such a simple person. So I didn't have anything to look forward too.......

So I started buying my daughter loads of european designer clothes.. I'm glad I did though because now I know the brands that will last longer and wash well.

I love designer clothes from europe.. and the styles are great.. One can find some good quality stylish clothing very cheap over here.. and it is one of the perks of living in europe.

If any of you ever make a trip to europe or england.. then definately take some money to shop for clothes in local shops.. (not tourists spots) Even asda (taken over by walmart) and tk max (like rosses nand tj maxx are great) And the quality is superb.

I never spend on myself accept.. comfy things.. because I wear a huge black covering over myself.. so noone sees my clothes anyway.. The coverings can be simply sewn.. but as I don't know how to sew.. they cost me at least $40 each.. I usually have 3 or 4 in case one gets ruined.. and the rest of the time lounge around in what I have..

I think having 2 babies made me gain too much weight.. and when I lose I'll be able to find cheaper clothes... that look good.. Thin people always look good!

I think it is important to have a simple haircut that suits you as an individual.. it will make you feel better about yourself and make the hubby happy too. And obviously having a great shape works wonders.. in that area.

Dressing nice and looking good is important in my religion.. We should try to do it in the house.. when people come to visit or when we go to parties.. And we have loads of parties! However that does not mean spending alot.. just choosing the right colours for your complexion.. and curling your hair..

HOwever, and this is also in my religion.. if you have clothes they should not be extravagant..they should last along time, and if you have any holes.. then one should try to patch them up.., they should always be clean from stains and smell nice.

Also we must not wear tight clothes that show our shape (unless to our hubby), see through clothes, and pictures and animals and humans. OUr clothes should be loose and cover us from our wrists to below the ankles.. We can wear any colour and design we like as long as it is hardwearing. And that includes covering our hair as well.

The men must wear pants above his ankles, he must have a beard, and he should try to cover up between his navel and knees and it is recommended that he cover his chest as well.

In this way.. we don't feel proud about what we wear.. rather we feel proud of the person who is the most simple.. Beauty is more natural and cleanliness is very important.

I find it very hard to find long wearing good quality clothing. that will not get ruined in the wash, stain easily and doesn't have any sequins, lace ectr on it.. that make me wash it by hand...

I like simple material that feels nice on the skin.. but washes and dries well.. and still looks good.

My next goal is to lose weight and buy a basic wardrobe that will last me ten years.

Re: Do you dress like you have money??

Well considering that I have a tendency not to go with what society in a whole thinks, acts, re-acts, & etc I tend to dress the way it makes me feel good about myself not using other folks ideas to give me a personal rush of I am good enough. I am always clean neat and dressed. Be it blue jeans and a tee-shirt tucked in with a tie handmade tie that I make into a belt or a beautiful high end dress Like ralph lauren I bought at goodwill for church. I dress in my style which takes guts. Low rider jeans do not fit my high waist..So I where higher toped. I do not look flatering in this or that so I do not feel good inside I do not buy it! I could care less if this years styles are this or that because between style up-dates and commerials on TV we are giving, our hard earned money to the ones that marketed the clothes in the first place. Sometimes I laugh so hard when I see how skinny commerials think women should be and the moms on like desperate Housewives new fail not to be in style. Style is a concept the clothing manufacters push with ads....then society goes on a tensy and they try to make you think you are not ((ALL THAT)) if ya don't wear abercrombie and finch!
Opportunity is missed by most because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work! Thomas Edison
I always dress the way that makes me feel good.. I could give a rats ___ what anyone thinks of me! LOL

That I actually can agree with. According to the newest fasion book by Instyle magazine, most people have on clothes that are too tight. The fastest way to look chic and effortless is NOT to wear tight clothing.
