Re: Do you dress like you have money??

I love clothes! I am particular about my clothing, as I cannot stand cheap-looking, used-looking, tired and wornout-looking, and cheaply-made clothes! However, I don't pay a lot of money for my clothes. I work in an environment that requires business casual, so I feel like I need a nice looking wardrobe (I can't fathom going to work looking tacky and raggedy). I'm also involved heavily in church, and I like to be dressed up for church--I haven't embraced that "casual come as you are" trend...suits and dresses and heels with hose for me every Sunday! My husband would say that I'm a clothes-hound. Maybe I am, I won't deny that. However, I'm not one of those who spend hundreds of dollars on an outfit or a pair of shoes. I never pay full price for clothing. I don't buy high-end designer clothing. I only shop sales. For a skirt suit, I don't pay over $70, and lately, I haven't been paying over $40 since Ross Dress for Less has moved to town (and they have good, brand name suits such as Le Suit and Kasper for $30 or $40 that sell at places like Dillards and Parisian for $120). For pantsuits/sets, I pay no more than $40 (found a Sag Harbor pantsuit at Ross the other night for $18.99!!!) For shoes, I pay on average $15 for a brand new pair (for work and church), but no more than $30. Slacks (for work), no more than $19.99. Skirts (for work), no more than $15.99. Shirts and blouses (for work), no more than $12.99. My summer and casual weekend clothes come mostly from wal-mart and end-season sales at Dillards. Summer casual shoes and weekend shoes come mostly from Wal-mart (where you can find very cute sandals for $5 and $6) and Payless Shoes. For church and work wear, I shop Ross Dress for Less (all the time), Dillards (when they're having sales), Parisian (when they're having sales), Sears, and JC Penney (when they're having sales). I shop these same places for shoes, in addition to The Shoe Department, Rack Room Shoes, and a store named the Shoe Outlet (in Alabama and Georgia, don't know if there are stores in other parts of the country) that sell shoes that were display shoes in a department store, overstock shoes, and shoes that are slightly used. Found a nice new pair of Nine West high-heeled boots for $29.99. Those same boots at Dillards were about $80.00.

I'm also not opposed to shopping in second-hand and resale boutiques. When I spent some time in Dallas, TX, there were resale boutiques that had very nice used clothing at very reasonable prices. Unfortunately, the resell shops in my town aren't that good... the clothes look a little too used at some shops, and at others the prices are way high for used clothes.

I'm either in the physics/chemistry teacher role or the home with the baby role and you don't want to dress up for either of those! I did meet with a financial advisor once who definitely had the "why didn't the front desk filter you out?" look

Re: Do you dress like you have money??

I dont dress like I have money at all I wear the jeans & tshirts everyday tshirts I get free from rebate offers or on clearance for less than $5. Its funny how people think if you dress a certain way you are poor oh well sometimes I like that better you want no one to know if you have even a few dollars cause they will either try to take it or sale you something.

My dad owned a car dealershisp & never hurt for money in his later years & he would buy the disfunctional shirts at like sams club it was so funny I mean they had a disfunction to them!!! For xmas & bdays I always bought him shirts cause the ones he bought for himself would be so bad!!

I kinda dress like a boy, but I'm a 35 year old woman. I don't dress like a wealthy boy.

I have to dress up somewhat for work, but my clothes still primarily come from thrift stores. I love the look on people's faces when they compliment something I am wearing and I tell them, "Yeah, I got this for $2.99 at the Thrifty Shopper". People often respond that they have never thought about thrift shopping, but might now!
I wear jeans and sweatshirts at home - or even pajama pants and t-shirts. I usually change into something comfy as soon as I get home. Brand names do not matter at all to me. I have some Tommy H, etc. type clothes, but only if they have been given as a gift or bought secondhand. I buy what I like, not according to labels.

I mostly live in jeans, tops, t-shirts, and sweaters. Some parts of my job, though, I go and face the business public, so I have a couple of nice outfits hung in my office. From Ross, of course.

You know its more than just buying the nice clothes - its maintaining them. You run up against the dilemma of woolite or dry cleaning.

Well, when I was doing more of the counselor thing in Rochester I'd dress up more, partially so I'd look more professional, and partially so I wouldn't be confused with the teenagers that I was working with!

But now I am a preschool teacher for the time being... I am constantly around messy art projects and runny noses so I tend to wear jeans and tshirts for the most part.

I had to when I was working but it was ALL clearence rack items & a deep clearence @ that.

So by my choice as a sahm I just wear whatever, no point in trying to impress my kids with my wardrobe when they're too little to care *L* But I too try to look a lil nicer when we have confrences @ school, holidays, ect.

Re: Do you dress like you have money??

I have never owned brand name clothing in my life. The most expensive item I ever bought was a new coat. I needed one so badly, my other one was 20 years old. I paid $100 for it and I was in shock at the price. However, I have been wearing it for close to $15 years, so I am getting my money's worth.
I don't wear old worn out clothes out, but my jeans are from qvc and run about $20. I don't work anymore, so i really don't need a lot of clothes.

I still have lots of clothes since I was a teen and my parents bought it for me. Then I got married and gain some weight after my first baby, but after my second baby I lost all of it back. My youngest is 11 months now. So I am so happy I didn't give that close away. But now when I need new clothes I can shop in the childrens departmen where everything is cheapper than in womens sizes. And I shop clearance when its like 75% off or more. Today I bought a few shirts for work for $1 each at Mervyn's, and some $1 and $3 clothes for my kids. I don't like to spend too much on clothes. I wear just whatewer, some pants and shirts, but not allowed to wear jeans to work. I really hate to wear skirts, dresses and nilons, I wear it only to church, cause I don't want go get weard looks from older people.

I do buy most of my clothes at QVC (we live 100 miles away from the nearest mall) but I keep all of the paper work on the clothes I really like from them. (Mostly pants, jeans and shorts) Then when I wear them out or get something on them I can't get out) I just reorder and they fit well.
I do not watch the show much at all anymore. I know I will spend too much.
