Re: what is your goal for 2007?
Actually, I have been thinking about this for a little while now. I was even going to write about it in my blog, but this thread will do.
My 2006 goal was to make the most dramatic turn-around as I possibly can, financially. Actually, the exact wording involved expletives so I've decided not to use them. As PP has to remind me from time to time, this is suppose to be a family forum.
Have I done it though? Well at the time of this writing... I have saved up to more than 10k in emergency fund, and at the same time, have paid down more than 10k in student loans. Between the two, my net worth jumped from -38k to -16k. For a man with modest income and going through a divorce, I am extremely proud of that, especially since more than a year ago, I haven't even started paying my students loans nor did I have anything in savings. It's a shame that I had to pay so much money in legal fees though.... Still, I'm going to chaulk it up to a having met my goal. *pats himself on the back*
I have also decided on what my 2007 goal will be. It's a deceptively simple one really. I call it, "Bye bye, student loans!" The only snag is that it's going to be easier said than done. I've got 27k to go, and by all accounts (not having any more assets to liquidate and not wanting to reduce my 401k contributions... which currently stands at 25%), it should be numerically impossible for me to achieve.
Ah, but what's life without a little challenge to spice things up?
My student loan is the only outstanding loan I have left, so why not tackle it with zeal? Realistically, I just want to pay it down as far as I can get it.
