My goals for 2007:

(1) Rebuild my emergency fund.
(2) Cut down on our living expenses by 20%
(3) Only buy what I absolutely need.
(4) Avoid taking out any more student loans!
(5) Start paying back school loans.

I just started back to school after five years of working, to pursue my dream career. DH has been really supportive, but dropping down to one income and incurring school expenses has drastically changed our financial situation. We've gotten down to living within the new income, but since I have two more years of school (and before I start working again) I'd really like to do a lot better over the coming year.

Been there done that!

I'd like to keep afloat & pay down the cc's but I know they'll go up again once slow season @ dh's work hits. Then get some improvements done on the house too!

1. Pay off DH's tuition bill, currently on a 0% cc ($4900)
2. Pay off DH's car - app. $850 (4 year loan which will be cut to 2)
3. Start contributing to Roth IRAs again for both me and DH - we had to stop this year when DH stopped working and went back to school
4. Resume extra payments on my student loans ($6000)
5. Remodel our bathroom
6. Get our EF back to $10k (down to $7300 now)
IF we get those done, which is a big if, since DH does not have a job yet, then we will go after his student loans too ($15,100).

My goal for 2006 was to pay off my student loan. I will write an $84 check in December and be done with it!

My goals in 2007 are:
- pay off my parents' loan to me by August 2006
--- start making additional payments on my car loan after I've paid off my parents
- increase my 401K contributions from 2% to 5% (full match) after I get my yearly raise and promotion (expected in January 2007)
- build my 3-month EF into 6-months or more of saving
- hold off on any major vacations this year to help my bf save money

Man, I'm still obsessed with my 2006 goal of getting $7200 in my EF. (4 months expenses)

To be completely honest, and I'm sure this will be frowned upon, my goal for 2007 is to live richer. This year has been a lot of scrimping and planning, and I want to let go a little and enjoy the fuits of my labor. Go on a real vacation, buy some nice clothes, decorate my home, treat myself to some beautiful ruby earrings on my 30th birthday (a long standing promise to myself).

Summary 2006
- 8% of my gross in the 401k (max company match)
- 15% gross for the EF
- No debt except my mortgage

Next year, 2007
- Still 8% gross in the 401k
- Signigicant raise February '07, all of which will go to a Roth IRA that I'll open next year
- Throttle back EF to 10% current gross
- Enjoy the rest!

I am going to pay off the $24000 mortgage on the land that I own. I will continue the $660 payments but make them into my car payment fund. I would love to pay off the car next year too and then start a new car fund. I would like to have 500,000 in my emergency (also spec house) fund.

2007 Goals:
1. Pay off $6000 on interest-free credit card by March (interest starts accruing in Oct 07).
2. Get a good start on masters program. Total program cost is $10,000.
3. Complete final touches to perfect our home.
4. Start Roth IRA
5. Maintain my car & DH's car so we have another car-payment-free year. Hopefully my Honda will live up to its name.


Goals by Oct 2008 (when I turn 30):
1. Visit friends in Spain, Germany, England, and New York
2. Save and buy land for dream home
3. Pay off undergrad student loan - $7000 still left
