i think i've decided my financial goal for 2007 is to bring my net worth into the black. that'll give me some flexibility on how to attain it (increasing savings or paying down debt, both will work towards the goal).

Is that with or without your house calculated? Because, if I recall, you're only 3.6k away. I wouldn't think that it would take a year to pay that amount off, would it?
2007 Goals
1.Make January a LOW expense month- NO eating out, NO absolute NEEDED items ( hoping for gas purchases only)- All saved money goes toward Debt reduction)
2.Have my SD completely paid off
3.Pay off my CC- $5500
4.fully fund my 401K
5.Sell my house- put proceeds toward debt reduction- should finish all debt off.
6.set aside enough money to pay for Master’s Degree
7.Establish a Roth IRA- Well researched before moving ahead
8.Have both of my cars in tip top running shape- Maintain another year of No car payments
9.Meet my $500 addition to my EF through my 2007 quarter challenge.- I am loving these quarter challenges
10.Increase my EF to 2 months expenses ( currently at 1)
11.Decrease my possessions by 50%- not sure how to measure this but I am sure that I will notice the difference ( financially and spatially)
12.complete my 100 Frugal Recipe cookbook
13.Empty my Pantry, so that I can challenge myself all over again- the whole time saving big money.
14.Finalize my end to smoking ( $1500 in savings)
15.Take a turn at turning $20 into $5000.
16. Increase my net worth to 30K
17. Fit into a respectable size for me 14/16
I would like to see uss revisit this thread each month and see our porgress
Wow, savvy, those are a lot of goals. I want to pay off my final two debts, land and car. I would like to go back on a diet and lose some weight!
I am going to start receiving a check for about $500 every month and my goal is to save every cent of it, every month!
yes, it is a lot of goals. Many of them relate to each other.
By not smoking, I save $1500 at least. That same money is earmarked for my 401K at work. Essentially, I will be healthier and complete the majority of my 401k contribution at the same time
The January challenge actually starts in December. I will be cutting the use of my utilities to hopefully the bare minimum. This will give me the lowest bill in January.
I will also be really kicking up my mileage efforts. I'll start work earlier and work a little later in order to ensure I have the maximum mileage check. The January challenge is to take a big chunk out of my CC debt.
The SD is ready to be paid off as soon as I get the statements. I have been working on getting the final total while setting aside a high estimate aside in a cash account so that all I have to do is mail the checks along with the statements. Just waiting on the person at the compnay I am dealing with to give me my totals. I have been trying to light a fire under this person for a while. Yesterday I turned the heat up and should have my totals in my mailbox sometime in December That should have the payments posted and toals wiped out in January.
The credit card can probably be paid off by May. I put every extra cent I have after paying bills toward that.I have auto pay. I can call and up the payment for the month when I know I can afford to let the extra funds go. Otherwise they receive the regular payment I have budgeted.
Selling my house: That has been ongoing and I am working on lighting a fire under that one also. I plan to increase the size of the sign with the number on it and run an ad in the paper with a photo. I think that will do the trick, if not then 90 days later I am listing it with a realtor.
If I net anything from the sale of the house then that goes toward the CC debt or Master's degree. There should be enough to pay for my master's degree.
ROTH IRA- not sure about that one this year. I put it in so I will feel the need to push myself.
The cars: Well, they need to be in tip top running condition. The funds for repairs and tune ups comes from my mileage checks right after gas. I have pretty big mileage checks.
The $500 challenge is a year long project. Everytime I save a dollar or more I drop a quarter in a jar. The savings can be from making my own detergent, finding the best sale price on a regular purchase, cooking at home, brownbagging it to work, receiving a handmedown item of clothing, buying an item to wear to work from our church's annual sale ( .50 each)- which I scour each year, holding a yardsale and making a profit, selling an itme for more than I paid in a different venue etc.....
It will take 2000 events of saving at least a dollar. That not only pushes me to take every opporunity to save but makes me look for new ways to save or make money. It also gives me more money to put toward debt as all those savings add up in my budget.
The increase in my EF is to be partially funded by the $500 and partially funded by the savings that allowed me to put the quarters aside in the first place. I will also be setting aside a set amount each month once I have the credit card paid off. One of my long term goals is to have one year of expenses set aside in cash in the event something catestrophic happens.
The downsizing of my possessions will also give me more money toward goals. As I sell them off, they meet the goal of downsizing and putting money toward a debt.
The emptying of the pantry and the 100 frugal recipe cookbook go hand and hand with saving money. My Pantry is overflowing as it is. Cleaning it out will save me money on groceries and meet the pantry goal at the same time.
The $20 into $5000- that also helps out the other goals including downsizing. It also pushes me toward a new finacial venture to bring in a side income.
The increase in net worth should come along simply do to the elimination of debt and increase in savings. I am less than $8000 from the 30K net worth as of today.
Fitting into a size 14/16 will take effort on my part. Hey just stayin busy working on the other goals ought o almost take care of that goal on its own LOL
I have to say I am blessed, because I was able to meet most of goals for 2006. I got my CCs down to less than half the balance and they should be paid off by December. My student loan I paid off one and have one left...yippie. I am also blessed because I was able to get over my ex and re-enroll in school and focus on my. Also I am doing very well with my depression with out medications so for 2007 if I am debt free my goal is to save for me a house. Wow just looking back on 2006 this was really a great year
Man, between you guys and the 101 Things in 1001 Days folks, I'm starting to feel like I need to get some hardcore goals.
Um.... Save some money?
Clearly I must work on my goal setting skills.
Congratulations! You now have a goal.
Now sharpen the focus a bit. Goals = specific + quantifiable + time-bounded. I'll bet the people on this forum know a lot about the skill of goal-setting.
