Stayed home today and ate left overs. When I'm not out = I'm not spending gas, putting wear and rear on my car and most importantly - I'm not spending money.

Although if I go online I can shop. Got most of my gifts bought and saved alot of money on not paying tax or shipping. Again didn't have to leave the house

I also used a small space heater instead of putting on the central heat. Uses a lot less electricity.

One of my chain grocery stores is having a 12 hour sale today and they have my beloved clementines on sale for $4.48/5lb box + I have a $1 coupon. However, it is HIGHLY unlikely I will go due to the weather here in metro Chicago – 24 hours of snow, temps falling into the single digits, wind gusts of 30-40mph (just had a gust) & wind chill going into the negative double digits. I would rather pay an extra 0.50 than brave those elements.

Also, no going out means NO spending.

I hope most of my neighbors feel the same way about our weather as WAG has several things on sale that I want. Normally WAG is out of stock on these VERY quickly-like before noon on Sun and DOES NOT get them back in stock for the duration of the sale & often several weeks more.

My local bulk outlet store closed >6 months ago. I am OUT of several things I buy there and spoke w/DD1 about the parent company outlet Sat eve. Honestly, the location is WAAAY off anywhere I go and too far to bother. The cost of gas is likely to exceed the savings. I will go to another store & pay a bit more but it is closer and on a sometimes travel route.

Kids gave me an immersion blender last night as requested. Going to use those broccoli stems I have been saving for this.

Good one Aleta! I also use the space heater in our bedroom at night to save on utilities.

I did stay home all day Sun, mostly due to the rotten cold & windy weather. I may do just the same today.

However, I WILL need to go out by Tue as several stores have sales for perishables I want/need that end Tue.

Today I saved by doing a Zumba class at home (Youtube videos are great!!), line drying my laundry, and not driving anywhere. Tonight's dinner (and last night's) is leftover thanksgiving food that I had frozen. My husband does the cooking on thanksgiving and he didn't care how big a bird he made (it's the same work for a small bird or a large one), so I said lets go big! We bought a 20+ lb turkey for the two of us and got tons of leftovers!

Tue was not frugal. I had to go see my Dad because, due to the horrible weather here, I had not been to see him in 5 days. Good thing I did as I FINALLY caught up w/the physical therapy person. She answered my questions and I do see the end of the tunnel. Probably another month of PT aide and therapy.

Since I was already out and passing a bunch of places I did some shopping. This all took a bit of time and I was VERY hungry for lunch as I neared home at nearly 2:30. Therefore I picked up a couple burritos at Taco Bell. Paid for them from my entertainment budget.

That is NOT inexpensive to me. Stocking stuffers s/b NO more than $1 or so and preferably FREE!! I send for a lot of free samples during the year and some become stocking stuffers. Lucky the grands still are young enough to appreciate crayons, card games, coloring book, markers …………. These are often picked up on back to school sales, dollar store or Target Dollar Spot.
                I agree with you!
I just posted an article on my blog with cheap stocking stuffer ideas.

Stayed home Wed and Thur so no gas, no spend days.

today will be an errand & visit my Dad (I like to ge there 2-3x/week)again day.

I actually feel bad because he always wants me to stay for lunch. However, the charge is either $12 or $15 and it is SOOOO not worth it. Example: this week the salad special is a chef's salad plate. I can buy one prepared at the chain grocer for $4. I hate to see anyone waste $$. I can go to a local, independent place for the sandwich special they offer for half that amount including tax & tip.

I am SOOOO ticked. Salvation Army did NOT pick up my donation Friday. I had it out b/4 8 am and it was not picked up. All I got was a ticket ($30)for placing ‘trash’ in my front yard (all our stuff is alley pickup). I am feeling hit by the ‘no good deed goes unpunished’ syndrome. Now I have to load it in my car, take it over and unload it – and today was supposed to be a no drive day and get some cooking prep done for next week. I need to do it today as we are anticipating another snowstorm Sun-Mon time frame and I want the donation on m6 2010 taxes.

                    Cooking for today includes:
                    Cauliflower creamed soup-in process
                    black bean & egg burritos
coleslaw - healthy lettuce is out of sight $$$ & cabbage was 0.15/lb
                    oven fried chicken

                      • I did something I do every two weeks, I bought gas at Costco! A side from the low price, I get a 3% rebate! Definitely the lowest price for gas.

                        • The wife and I cooked all our meals at home this weekend - something we never do (mostly because I fly during the week and am only home on the weekends, so we enjoy our "date weekends").

For Christmas, my company had sent us this massive surprise package of some rather expensive pancake mix, maple syrup, and apple drizzle (amongst other things). So, we decided to stay at home and make breakfast - and one thing led to another and we cooked all our meals at home!

We did go out for coffee at Starbucks, though, on both days.

                          • I am waiting to hear if DD1 is doing Christmas Day dinner as she has for about 5 years. She is a lacto-ovo veg. I ALWAYS offer to make something and this time will offer up to 2 of these:

                            Zucchini pancakes
                            Apple pancakes
Choice of full size cream puffs, mini cream puffs or cream puff cake

Two recipes are about ½ day of cooking and I have the ingredients for all in house. Hey, I might make them ALL for myself if DD1 does not have dinner on Christmas.

Other than above I have already done enough cooking to cover my dinners all week. Just need to cut some fruit and do a breakfast recipe to be done for the week. Lunches are cottage cheese, leftovers and tuna salad so no biggie/prep there.

Today will be a stay home, cook, nap and hopfeully be awake to watch the bears/Vikings tonight. I just hope no players have season/career ending injuries tonight on this WAAAY less than optimal field. I think the NFL has its head...........

                            • Well yesterday DH spaghetti sauce with pantry supplies including 2 pounds of venison sausage. The day before that I went shopping armed with coupons and a list.

                              • Yesterday I dropped my kids off at karate then took my coupons down to the nearby Stop & Shop. They had sent me a mailer of great coupons (several free items) plus they were running double coupons up to $1. By the end of the trip, I had bought $46 worth of food and only paid $18. A few days ago I went to Shop Rite, again armed with lots of coupons for things on sale and cut my bill from $101 down to $55.

I can't do this all the time, and for that reason I often shop at BJs (convenience & price). But, occasionally I do need to hit the grocery store and it's nice when I can score deals like this.

Today a friend is taking me with her to Costco (I love Costco, but it's not convenient enough to warrant a membership). I'll be picking up some things that I can't get elsewhere (Costco Chicken Bakes...yum!).
