  • Stopped into the convenience store this morning and the cashier told me how she was verbally then physically assaulted on the bus yesterday. An African American man accused her of being a Trump supporter, called her names then grabbed her by the next and started choking her.

Browsed a couple of the local news websites and don't see a reference to that post election crime.

So because it wasn't listed online, it didn't happen? I'm not sure if that's the point you're trying to make.

Depending on the area, not reporting crimes is pretty common. Where I work, it's pretty much the norm. First off, the cops are pretty worthless. Second, many of the people have legal issues of their own and aren't about to do anything to put themselves on the radar of the legal system. More than once, a patient has told me about an attack or home break in or similar and when I ask what the police did, the answer is "I didn't call the police". Either they are afraid of the police or they have had previous problems or they have an outstanding warrant or whatever. There's just no upside in their mind to involving the police.

No, of course that isn't the point I was trying to make.

The point is that there are websites tracking post election attacks on minorities with the blame being placed on Trump. The police were called, the man was arrested, but I will be shocked if it makes the news.

My apologies. I totally misunderstood you.

          • My friends mosque was vandalised. She was told to go back to where she came from and screamed at. She's since removed the hijab. They are considering leaving the US. This has happened to two different muslim families we know in two different cities. Before the election these same friends got nasty letter when they bought their condo about how they were "undesirable" and "not part of the community." LOVELY in Feb 2015.

So it's not just one sided. I'd have to say that both sides are behaving poorly. I'd also say that there is definite harassment for muslim and african americans long term.

But seeing the hail hitler sign out in public with people doing it without shame seems a bit much. But maybe it's not a big deal and freedom of speech.

            • Live tweeting of Trumps visit with NYT.

              Tweet from Mike Grynbaum

Trump: “I’ve known Steve Bannon a long time. If i thought he was a racist, or alt-right…I wouldn’t even think about hiring him."

Will the President-elect condemn Richard Spencer’s alt-right gathering? “I condemn them. I disavow, and I condemn,” says Trump.

                • Read the tweets. He acted presidential and finally took a stance on the alt-right. He also has an open mind on climate change and believes that it is somewhat man caused. Definitely a lot more tolerable than his campaign nonsense. I give this interview a thumbs up.

                  • I just read a story about the local public school board looking into allegations of bullying immigrant students. I find reports like this disturbing, but I was quickly frustrated when I read the comments section of the story. Several white parents shared stories of their child being bullied in predominantly African American schools. One went through proper channels to address the issue and no action was taken. And there was certainly no public statement by the board about it.

Bullying is bullying, racism is racism regardless of the color of the victim!!!

Agreed. That's why I feel if people can see Trump is not some pro-white nationalist and want to distance himself as far as he came from those type of people..the minorities can stop seeing trump voters as racists.

Well what will be interesting is how this NYT's meeting is reported by the major networks.

                          • Well my concern is that the cut is too deep. I think Trump maybe didn't believe half the things he said on the campaign trail, but his rhetoric was excellent at using emotion to excite his base. Unfortunately a lot of things he have done (birthers movement) and said prior to winning the election has made a cut so deep that getting trust from the HC supporters will be difficult.

Exactly. Maybe he doesn't actually believe all of the trash he said during the campaign and just said whatever he needed to say to get elected, but that's a problem. All of that stuff doesn't just go away after the election. I sincerely hope that President Trump will be a very different man than candidate Trump but a lot of damage was done in the process and just saying, "I changed my mind" now isn't suddenly going to make everyone he alienated trust and support him.

I understand his rhetoric has offended many and that is difficult to move past. And for the individuals struggling with that peacefully, I respect and sympathize.

Those that are using violence to express their frustration need to be dealt with the same regardless of skin color and the MEDIA needs to cover all of the racially motivated crimes and not just the ones that are in line with their anti-Trump agenda.

I don't know for certain, but I don't believe the woman I mentioned this morning is even a Trump supporter and she was choked on a bus for being white.
