Do You Set Aside Dream Time Each Day?

In my five-year Rich Habits study of 233 wealthy individuals and 128 poor individuals, one pattern stood out clearly: self-made millionaires protect the first two hours of every day with almost religious devotion.
They call it their “Dream Time.”
While most people hit the snooze button, check their phones, or rush into the chaos of emails and obligations, the wealthy rise early and dedicate those precious morning hours to pursuing their biggest dreams and goals. My research shows that 88% of self-made millionaires wake up at least 3 hours before their official work day begins and devote two of those hours to the pursuit of some dream.
They use this time deliberately.
Why the first two hours specifically? Because that’s when your mind is freshest, your willpower is at its peak, and distractions are at their lowest. The prefrontal cortex — the part of your brain responsible for focus, decision-making, and long-term thinking — operates at maximum efficiency in the early morning. Once the day takes over with meetings, family responsibilities, and endless notifications, that mental clarity disappears.
During my own journey, I woke at 4:30 a.m. every weekday for the past 20 years to conduct my Rich Habits research and write multiple bestselling books. Those quiet morning hours, from 4:30 to 6:30, became my Dream Time. Despite running a business and raising three young children, this consistent morning block allowed me to complete projects that changed my life and the lives of many others.
What should you do in your Dream Time?
The wealthy focus on high-value activities directly tied to their dreams:
• Work on specific goals that move their Dreams forward
• Read books for self-improvement and skill development (88% of rich people read 30+ minutes daily)
• Exercise to build both physical and mental strength (76% of wealthy individuals)
• Plan their day around their most important objectives
My data revealed that 76% of wealthy people write down goals every day that are connected to their long-term dreams.
The self-made rich understand that dreams don’t happen by accident — they are built through daily, consistent action.
The compound effect of two hours daily is extraordinary. Over a year, that’s more than 700 hours invested directly into your future. Over five years, it’s the equivalent of nearly a full year of full-time work on your dreams.
If you want to join the ranks of the self-made wealthy and live the life of your dreams, claim your mornings. Set your alarm 90 to 120 minutes earlier tomorrow. Turn off distractions. Protect your Dream Time like the precious resource it is.
Your future self is waiting for you in those quiet early hours. Don’t keep them waiting any longer.
