This year, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day fall on the weekend when people generally have the day off from work. But as a federally recognized holiday, workers are still guaranteed a day off during the business week. Is the Stock Market Open on New Year’s Day 2023?
With Christmas and New Year’s Day exactly a week apart, it’s easier to remember the holiday schedules. However, it can be a little more difficult when the holiday falls on a Sunday. In observance of the day, the stock and bond markets close the Monday following. Therefore, the markets will be closed on both New Year’s Day and Monday, January 2.
However, the bond market will also close early on Friday, December 30 as well. The markets will close one hour earlier at 2:00 p.m. EST, allowing people more time to prepare for ringing in 2023.

Crossing session orders are accepted from 1:00 EST for continuous executions until 1:30 EST on these dates. The late trading sessions for NYSE American Equities, NYSE Aroa Equities, NYSE Chicago, and NYSE National close at 5:00 p.m. EST.
