What Restaurants Are Open on Christmas Day 2022

December 12, 2022 by Melissa Batai

What restaurants are open on Christmas Day?

Twenty-five years ago, my friend and I traveled 750 miles to another friend’s wedding. After the wedding, we headed back home on December 24th. At first, the drive was fine. However, we noticed a troubling trend late in the afternoon—all of the restaurants and gas stations we’re closing for Christmas Eve. By 6 p.m., we couldn’t find an open restaurant or gas station, and we worried that we might run out of gas before we got home. While it’s nice that businesses close so their employees can celebrate the holidays, if you need to travel, you need to know what restaurants are open on Christmas Day and Christmas Eve. Luckily, now, not as many restaurants close as they did 25 years ago.

What Restaurants Are Open on Christmas Day 2022

Whether you’re traveling or want the day off from cooking, several chain restaurants are open on Christmas Day 2022. However, while the restaurants are open, they may have reduced hours and open or close later than their hours on a regular business day.

National Chain Restaurants

If you plan to travel on Christmas Day, you’ll find many national chain restaurants, especially of the fast food variety, open.

Boston Market

According to their website, Boston Market is open at select locations and will feature a special Christmas menu.

IHOP

IHOP states the majority of their restaurants will be open on Christmas Day.

Romano’s Macaroni Grill

Romano’s Macaroni Grill will open on Christmas Day from noon to 8 p.m.

Starbuck’s

The popular coffee chain urges customers to check with their local store to see if they will open on December 25th.

McDonald’s

Like IHOP, most, but not all, McDonald’s restaurants will be open on Christmas Day.

Buca di Beppo

If you’re craving Italian comfort food on Christmas Day, Buca di Beppo will be open.

Waffle House

What restaurants are open on Christmas Day?

Waffle House prides itself on being open 24/7, 365 days of the year, so this can be a great location to snag your Christmas Day breakfast.

Shoney’s

In previous years, Shoney’s has opened at 11 a.m. on Christmas Day for a special Christmas meal. Check with your local restaurant for this year’s plans.

Fogo de Chao

Fogo de Chao is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Christmas Day, perfect for the carnivores in your life.

Benihana

Leave behind heavy foods like turkey and ham and instead indulge in sushi at Benihana. Check with your local restaurant for hours.

Applebee’s

Like McDonald’s and IHOP, most locations will be open on Christmas Day.

Baker’s Square

Many Baker’s Square locations will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Day, though you should check the hours at the restaurant closest to you.

Restaurants

If you want to visit a restaurant on Christmas Day to avoid holiday cooking, don’t forget to check with your local restaurants. You can likely find hometown fast food chains that will be open as well as fine dining options.

You may also need reservations for fine dining restaurants open on Christmas Day. Call as early as possible to make reservations.

Final Thoughts

What restaurants are open on Christmas Day? Thankfully, many restaurants are, which can make life easier if you’re traveling or want to take a day off from cooking.
