How to Save for Your Next Landscaping Project

July 28, 2022 by Sam Hayes

Landscaping can make a huge difference in both the value of your home and the way that you enjoy your time there. The National Association of Landscape Professionals found that 81% of Americans have a lawn, meaning many want to improve their landscaping. However, it can also be extremely expensive. While there are different ways to finance your landscaping project, many people prefer to save money and do it that way. Here are some ways you can save up for your next landscaping project.

Shop Around

In order to save up your money, you need to know what you’re paying for. Homeowners generally replace things with like materials, such as vinyl siding. However, there are also many different colors, styles, and types to choose from. Before you make any solid plans, take some time to look at all of your options. Don’t just jump to replacing what you have with the exact same thing. While this might end up being the best decision for you, you should decide this after you’ve gone through a number of different possibilities and considered them for your own home.

Homeowner’s Insurance

Depending on why you need to do this landscaping project, your homeowner’s insurance might be able to help. At least 85% of homeowners in the U.S. have homeowner’s insurance. These policies cost an average of $1,445 per year. If your insurance will cover even some of your landscaping needs, like repairing your weather-damaged lawn, that can reduce the amount of money you need to save up for your project.

Set a Goal

Once you’ve shopped and checked your insurance policy, you need to set a clear goal. Otherwise, you won’t know how much money you need. You’ll have to decide what you want and what your budget will be before you start any aspect of your project. When you set a goal, you’re more likely to actually hit it. You’ll be motivated and know exactly what you’re saving up for. So figure out how much money you need and write it down. Then direct your energy toward hitting that goal.

Get a Side Job

If your current job doesn’t bring in enough money for you to save any, you might need to get a temporary side job. Or, if your job does bring in enough to put in savings, a side job might help you reach your goal faster. Either way, picking up a second gig can be a great way to get the money you need. Depending on your location and availability, there are many different types of jobs you can get. Picking up a service job will provide stable payments, while a gig job might allow you to set your own hours. You might also have skills that would lend themselves to freelancing. So consider what kind of side job you could get in order to reach your money goals.

Have a Yard Sale

If getting a side job isn’t an option, you might be able to boost your savings by holding a yard sale. Find the things in your home that you no longer need and see if you can sell them. A yard sale only lasts one or two days, so you don’t need to commit a ton of time to it. But it can be a quick influx of cash for your landscaping project.

Landscaping projects can get expensive, so you’ll want to figure out the best ways to save up for them. With some careful planning and extra work, you can set a reasonable goal and hit it, allowing you to easily pay for the landscaping project you want to do in your yard.
