Easy Ways to Save Money on Car Repairs

April 21, 2022 by Sam Hayes

Having a car has become a necessity for the majority of people over the last few years. It can start to feel like you’re spending a lot more on repairing it and keeping it running than you’re getting out of it, however. Have a look at some of the easy ways in which you can save money on car repairs below and enjoy your car to the maximum.

Don’t Ignore Regular Maintenance

Performing regular maintenance on your car is one way to avoid paying a lot of money for costly repairs. Make sure to follow the service intervals specified by the manufacturer of your car so that you can get the most optimum performance out of it. With a whopping four out of five repairs performed on cars related to the vehicle’s durability, it’s easy to see how you can save on extensive repairs if you don’t let your car reach the end of its life or get close to it before taking it to the auto shop.

Listen to Warning Signs

As important as regular vehicle maintenance is, it may miss a few important things. In other cases, issues may arise from something simply getting destroyed or reaching the end of its life. Whichever the case, your car will often let you know by flashing a warning light on the dash. You simply never know how serious the issue behind the light is, and it’s best not to take a chance and risk damaging your car extensively. Make it a point to head to a good auto shop to have the issue checked out whenever you see a warning and you may save money that you would have spent fixing something you could have avoided having to repair.

Know What Car Repairs Cost in Your Area

Keep in mind that, while different auto shops may have different prices for their services, there’s a minimum and maximum amount. It’s good to be familiar with these prices so that you don’t pay a lot of money for something that shouldn’t cost as much to do. You will also not have unrealistic expectations for different jobs but will be prepared to pay the right amount each time and get the work you need done on your car done well. For instance, with underride and override being more common among cars that sustained front damage (39%) than those that sustained rear damage (26%), you will do well to research the prices for such a repair if you need it so you know the right amount you will need to pay for it.

Shop Around for Discounted Parts

As with auto repair shops, part dealers will also have a range of different prices. When you shop online for the parts you need, you may find a discount faster and therefore save some money. Don’t buy at the first shop you come across; rather, shop around so you can get a good deal, making sure to only buy from trusted sellers who will sell you genuine parts.

Work With a Reputable Repair Shop

Finally, to make sure that you get the best service at good prices, always take your car to a reputable auto repair shop. Ask friends and family and also search online, reading reviews before you make your decision. Doing this will help you get good service every time and avoid heading back to the shop for the same issue a few times. With about 234,700 auto repair and maintenance centers in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2020, this was an increase of 0.9% from the previous year. This means that you will have an easy time finding a good repair shop to work with.

Follow these tips to save money on car repairs and enjoy having a well-serviced car at a pocket-friendly price!
