These Are The Top 2022 High Income Skills

February 2, 2022 by Kathryn Vercillo

2022 High Income Skills

There are certain skills that you can learn (or even teach yourself) to boost your ability to earn money. Some of these are hard skills that you can put to use in specific environments. Many of those hard skills are also great when starting or growing your own small business. Additionally, you can learn some important soft skills. These will translate across industries. By taking the time to grow your skills, you set yourself up to grow your income in significant ways. With that in mind, here are some of the top 2022 high income skills.

Soft Skills vs. Hard Skills

There are two important types of skills to move your career forward. Hard skills are the measurable skills that you can learn and teach. How specific computer software works, the right way to use specific machinery, and science/math skills required for a specific job are examples of hard skills. Learning a second language is also a hard skill; you can teach it and measure your success with it.

On the other hand, soft skills are less measurable. And while you can learn and teach them, it’s not as straightforward or measurable as with hard skills. Soft skills are things like creative thinking, problems solving, interpersonal communication skills, and so forth. These are skills that we need in all different types of jobs.

Historically companies focused on your ability to with hard skills. However some of the top 2022 high income skills are soft skills. We’re increasingly aware of the critical importance of both types of skills to business success.

Top 2022 High Income Skills: Soft Skills

According to NovoResume, the top 10 soft skills employers are looking for are:

1. Adaptability

In other words, can you adjust to change? Can you pivot? While this has always been an important skill, we’ve seen it grow in importance since the beginning of the pandemic. After all, the whole world had to pivot. Employers in 2022 recognize that this can be critical to business success.

You can demonstrate adaptability to potential or current employers by stepping in to take on new tasks, welcoming new team members, and highlighting examples of how you’ve demonstrated comfort with change. Optimism, calmness, and self-motivation also tend to convey adaptability.

2. Attention to Detail

This is one of the top 2022 high income skills to set you apart from other candidates in the workplace. If two of you can do the exact same job but you have better attention to detail then you’re going to stand out.

3. Communication

Your ability to communicate is one of the most important skills that you can develop for any job. This includes both overt and subtle communication. (In other words, your body language and facial expressions matter, too.) It includes written and verbal communication. Moreover, it includes communication with team members, employers, staff, and clients.

4. Creativity

It’s hard to quantify creativity, but people tend to know it when they see it. This is what makes it a valuable soft skill. Show employers that you know specific creativity skills such as brainstorming and mind-mapping. However, don’t underestimate demonstrating more ineffable qualities like an appropriate ability to question things, voicing original ideas, and innovating.

5. Interpersonal Skills

Communication is one part of interpersonal skills. However, you need to round those out. Examples of related traits include demonstration of authentic tolerance for all people and viewpoints, appropriate use of humor in the workplace, and networking skills.

6. Leadership Skills

Even when you work a middle management position, you need to demonstrate leadership skills. These days, employers do recognize that there are different leadership styles. Read up on them, identify yours, and hone those traits.

7. Problem-Solving Abilities

Adaptability and creativity go a long way towards helping with problem-solving. However, it stands alone as an important soft skill. Show that you can observe all facets of an issue, brainstorm solutions, logically select the best course of action, and then select and communicate a clear decision.

8. Teamwork

As you can see, many soft skills interconnect with one another. It’s important to delineate them because it helps tease out those nuances. Teamwork does have to do with communication and other interpersonal skills. However, it also has to do specifically with managing conflict in an appropriate manner, coordinating well with people in and outside of the team, and collaborating. Learning how to do this in a remote environment is especially important in 2022.

9. Time Management

With more and more people working remotely, employers are looking for employees that can manage their own time well without a lot of oversight.

10. Work Ethic

Do you care about doing a job well? Is it important to you that you do your best whether or not you get rewarded for it? This translates to observable traits like being on time, exhibiting professionalism, and being the employee people can count on.

Top 2022 High Income Skills: Hard Skills

The soft skills translate to all different types of jobs. Hard skills tend to be more job-specific. However, there are certain hard skills that are widely agreed-upon to be the best 2022 high-income skills. Remember that hard skills are skills that are measurable and teachable. You might learn them in a classroom or on the job. Therefore, getting certificates, degrees, or other “proof” of these skills is helpful when applying to jobs.

According to RoosterVane and CareerSherpa, the most valued high income skills in 2022 are:

  • Affiliate marketing
  • Analytical reasoning
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Blockchain
  • Business analysis
  • Cloud computing
  • Content marketing
  • Copywriting
  • Data science
  • Graphic design
  • Paid advertising
  • Project management
  • Real estate
  • Sales
  • Scientific computing
  • SEO
  • Social media marketing
  • Software development
  • Trade jobs / vocations
  • UX design
  • Video editing and production
  • Web design

As you can see, some of these are the types of skills that have been high income skills for quite some time. Real estate, web design, and copywriting have been popular for decades. If you work in these fields already, dig deeper and brush up on the latest techniques and tools in your niche.

Many of these jobs are, of course, related to the Internet. SEO and social media marketing, paid advertising, graphic design, web design, software development. These are not new jobs either but they change rapidly. You can learn for the first time now or expand your skills with the latest information.

Some tech jobs are a bit newer, of course, like blockchain, cloud computing, and AI. Other jobs are age-old, like the vocational trades that you can get certified in and still make a great living without a traditional college education.

Find what’s right for you as you work to grow your income in 2022.
