Sam’s Club Scan & Ship New Features

August 12, 2021 by Kathryn Vercillo

Warehouse stores like Sam’s Club and Costco have done a great job of innovating during the pandemic. For example, Sam’s Club improved their curbside shopping experience so that people wouldn’t have to go inside the store to get needed items. They also launched Scan and Go, an app-based shopping tool. Now they’ve added Sam’s Club Scan & Ship New Features to the Scan and Go experience. They’re really seamlessly combining a digital and in-person shopping experience. This makes shopping easier, more convenient, and potentially safer for everyone.

What Is Scan And Go?

Before we talk about Sam’s Club Scan & Ship New Features, let’s talk about Scan and Go. After all, it’s the predecessor to this new product. Scan and Go is an app-based in-store shopping tool for Sam’s Club customers. Here’s how it works:

  • Download the Sam’s Club app on your phone. Chances are that you might already have it if you’re a Sam’s Club member.
  • Open the app when you enter the store to do your shopping. As you shop, you’ll use the app.
  • Before you place an item into your cart, scan the barcode with the app. This adds the item to your virtual shopping cart. Then you place it into your physical shopping cart.
  • When you’re done shopping, simply pay for the entire cart through the app. Everything you’ve put in your physical cart should be in the app, right? So pay the bill.
  • You’ll receive a QR code on your phone which is your digital receipt for the purchase.
  • Then head out. Show your digital receipt to the Sam’s Club customer service representative at the door.

Yep, that’s it. With Sam’s Club Scan and Go, you pay for your items on your phone. Therefore, you avoid checkout lines. People love this because it is so convenient. Plus, you don’t have to get close to other people in line. Lots of people like this during social distancing.

To answer a few common questions, yes, you can use Sam’s Club Scan and Go at the gas station there. In some stores, but not all, you can use it to purchase alcohol. There’s no cost to using this service; it’s included with your Sam’s Club membership.

Sam’s Club Scan & Ship New Features

Okay, so you may or may not have been familiar with Scan and Go. But now you know what it is. Sounds convenient right? So why are there Sam’s Club Scan & Ship New Features now? And what do they add to this existing service.

Well, think about all of the things that you buy when you’re at Sam’s Club. If you buy a bunch of small things, then it’s easy to add them into your cart. However, you often shop in bulk at Sam’s Club. You can’t easily load those big bulk items into your cart. Moreover, you might make huge purchases at Sam’s Club. For example, you might buy appliances. You certainly aren’t going to scan an appliance then try to load it into your cart and take it home yourself.

And that’s where Sam’s Club Scan & Ship New Features come in. The tool works similar to Scan and Go in that you scan the item yourself. You also pay for it on your phone. However, you choose a shipping option. That way, any item that’s too big for you to easily leave the store with yourself can get delivered directly to your door. Imagine how easy this is! You need new furniture. You go to Sam’s Club, find the piece you want, use the new Sam’s Club Scan & Ship New Features to scan and pay, then later the item arrives at your doorstep. Easy peasy. Shipped items typically arrive 3-5 days from the date of purchase.

How to Scan Large Items at Sam’s Club

If you go shopping at Sam’s Club, you’ll notice that each large item has a price tag on it. Moreover, that price tag now has a QR code on it. Use the app to scan the QR code. According to the signage shown on their official announcement about Sam’s Club Scan & Ship New Features, you can also make changes to color, model, etc. within the app. In other words, if the exact item you don’t want isn’t there in the store, scan it to see if you have more choices. Make the choice that you want. Then select it and pay for it.

Speaking of that QR Code …

Not everyone is sold on the idea of downloading the Scan and Go app. We’re not sure why, but that’s okay. Sam’s Club offers a “give it a try” option for you. When you see one of those QR codes on something that you like at Sam’s Club, simply scan it with your phone’s camera. You’re probably used to doing that with menus and the like lately anyway, right? You’ll have the option to buy directly on your phone. This gives you a chance to test out the technology. Try it three times before Sam’s Club will prompt you that it’s time to go ahead and download the Scan and Go app. Remember that it’s within the app that you’ll find the Sam’s Club Scan & Ship New Features as well.

You Can Combine Scan and Go with Scan and Ship

Oftentimes you’re at Sam’s Club to make a variety of different purchases. Therefore, you might have some items in your cart that you’re ready to take to the car with you. Yet, other large items need to be shipping. No worries. You can do all of this in the app. You can pay and leave with the items that you can carry. Additionally, you can pay and ship the items that you aren’t able to take with you. Win win.

When You Can Start Using Sam’s Club Scan & Ship New Features

Unfortunately, this new product isn’t available to everyone just yet. They’ve launched it in three different stores so far. In other words, it’s in a testing phase. If all goes well, it should expand to other stores quickly. If you’re not familiar with it, Sam’s Club has a Dallas-based “innovation lab” called Sam’s Club Now, which is one of the places that tests all new things such as this. So if you happen to be in the Dallas area then you might want to check that out. Otherwise, you can download the Scan and Go tool itself now. Start using that and look for news about the release of the Sam’s Club Scan & Ship New Features coming soon.
