Mother’s Day Gift Ideas That Won’t Break The Bank

April 28, 2016 by Jennifer Clark

Save Money on Mother's Day
Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and although we want to give our mom’s the world, sometimes our wallets do not permit it.

There is nothing like a mother’s love, and no gift can really match everything she’s done for us. But, you can still express your gratitude and love without spending a fortune, especially if you are on a budget.

As you think about what you’re getting that special lady, consider these thoughtful and creative gift ideas that will impress those moms in your life without over-drawing your bank account:

  • A Homemade Gift. No, we aren’t talking about macaroni artwork here. Pinterest has a never-ending supply of frugal craft ideas that mom will love and leave her speechless. You can dig a little deeper here and make her your own body scrubs. We particularly like this recipe, and it’s perfect for spring. Another idea may be to create that pallet shelving unit Mom’s been swooning over. Handmade and useful for the home? Sign us up.
  • Help Her Check Something Off Her Bucket List. Think of clever ways to get mom’s bucket list before the 8th so that you can surprise her with news that you are going to help her cross off an item from her bucket list. Perhaps send out a mass e-mail to family members asking them all to send you their list, but explain in a separate correspondence why you really sent out the message. Pick something that you know you can afford or team up with other family members to see it through. If visiting another country is on her list, check out Groupon. They always have some great getaway deals that you really can’t pass up. Girls’ trip, anyone?
  • Start Writing Her Letters. Who doesn’t love getting letters? And now that we are in a digital age, we receive them less and less. Show mom you’re thinking of her by starting a tradition this year to begin writing her more. This Mother/Daughter letter book for under $50 would be a great way to introduce it.
  • Get Her Something That Shines and Sparkles. Jewelry makes a great gift, but great quality can mean a little more money. However, sterling silver is often affordable, with many pieces under $100 at your local jewelry store. Another meaningful item she can wear around her neck, though, would be a traditional locket. Have kids? Put their image in the necklace for mom. Etsy has a great selection of affordable and creative pieces.
  • Don’t Wine About It. Is your mom a total wino? Get her accessories for that wine collection she is building up or even add to it with a new flavor she hasn’t tried yet. If she is picky about her selection, you could buy her a new rack that also doubles as decor in the kitchen. Check out this $12 wine rack from Pottery Barn.
  • Give Her Time. Offer to help with the housework or even run her errands for her. Give her the entire day off or, better yet, ask to spend the day with her. Take her to a museum or go to the park and have a picnic. You only have one chance at creating memories with your loved ones. Make them count.

Whatever you decide to do as your gift, we are sure Mom will love because she will see the time and attention you put toward her gift. That’s exactly one of the many reasons why we love her so much.

What are you getting the moms in your life for Mother’s Day?
