10 Laundry Gadgets That Save Money

May 14, 2013 by Danielle Warchol

When it comes to doing laundry, there are a lot of little things that you can do to save money. There are ways to save money while using both the washer and the dryer, and there are also a number of gadgets that you can purchase that can help to reduce the costs of doing laundry. Below are some of those gadgets that are worth considering to help you save even more money when you do laundry:

Woolzies

For those looking to reduce laundry expenditures, Woolzies are a great product to try out. They’re dryer balls that reduce the amount of time you need to dry your laundry and eliminate the need for fabric softeners and dryer sheets. They’re also made from New Zealand wool, reducing the risk of chemical pollution that other products emit. Best of all, these products can be used over and over again.

Laundry Ball

Laundry Balls are very similar to the Woolzie except they’re used for washing, not drying. The refillable ball eliminates the need for laundry detergent and is free of chemicals and claims to be eco-friendly. One laundry ball can be used over 100 times, so for a couple of dollars, you’re saving a significant amount of money. Just think of how much laundry detergent you won’t have to buy!

Sock Rings

Do you often lose one of your socks to the washing machine? Do you have a drawer full of single socks instead of matching pairs? Socks might not be expensive to buy, but having to buy and replace missing socks can be solved by sock rings. Sock rings are washing machine friendly devices that loop around your socks, keeping them together as they tumble through the washer.

Sweater Stone

Save yourself an expensive trip to the dry cleaners by purchasing a sweater stone. The sweater stone will remove the excess lint and debris that’s hanging onto your sweater after you remove it from the washing machine or dryer. A sweater stone makes your sweaters look as good as new – or just like they returned from the cleaners instead of from your washing machine!

Pop-Open Sweater Dryer

Save electricity and money and stop using your dryer. Instead, use a sweater dryer for all your sweaters or delicates. The Pop-Open Sweater Dryer is compact and easy to use. It drip dries your delicates quickly and efficiently, allowing you to save your delicates from the rough treatment of a dryer so that they last longer. Additionally, it’s compact enough that it’s easy to store anywhere.

Wash Bag

Are you afraid that your delicate items might be torn to pieces in the washing machine? Worried that you’ll have to replace them if this happens? Well, use a wash bag and all your troubles will disappear. Wash bags are usually mesh bags that come in various shapes and sizes that allow you to wash your delicates without worrying about snags or tears. All you have to do is put the items inside and send it through its normal wash cycle.

Hanger Organizer

Because laundry is done on an ongoing basis, week after week, even things that don’t seem like they cost a lot of money individually can add up to a lot of money over time. For example, a lot of people end up wasting money on hangers. Clothes hangers can be easily lost or easily broken. While they might be fairly cheap to replace, why replace an item when you don’t have to? A hanger organizer will allow you to keep all your hangers organized in a neat stack. You won’t have to worry about losing them or accidentally breaking them anymore!

Drying Rack or Clothesline

While drying your clothes on a rack or clothesline might seem a little old school, it can save you a lot of money. After all, you’re cutting down on dryer sheets and electricity. It’s estimated that people spend around $100 a year on drying machines. Air drying your clothes is a one time expensive. It might take longer to dry your clothes, but wouldn’t you rather save that $100? Besides, by air drying your clothes, you won’t have to worry about accidentally shrinking anything!

Clothes Steamer

A clothes steamer might seem like an unnecessary investment, but it’s one that could come in very handy. Have you ever run a load of laundry just for one piece of clothing? Something you needed to get wrinkles out of or a small stain removed? A clothe steamer will give that piece of clothing that quick cleaning and ironing it needs, saving you from having to run a full cycle for one piece of clothing.

Stain Remover

Stain removers are a wonderful tool since they can sometimes save you from having to buy replacement clothing or run a load of laundry. After all, why wouldn’t you prefer to remove a stain with a stick or bar instead of putting it through the wash? Stain removers are usually a couple of dollars and last for months at a time. They’re definitely one laundry gadget you’ll want to consider purchasing.

What are some of the indispensable laundry gadgets that you use that end up saving you both time and money?
