Here are some general things to consider, each of which you can research further:

    - Affiliate marketing (requires you to be tech savvy to be successful)
    - Write an eBook and publish it on Amazon, B&N, and Apple (see my footer link for an example)
    - Leads Generation Sales work
    - Programming consulting
    - Virtual Recruiter
    - Real Estate Agent (not exclusively online, but when I did this, most was done over Internet)
    - Day Trader/Investor (beware: risk involved)

Great stuff, do you have any suggestions for sites that allow submitting online software for reviews? I have a home budget online application I would like to submit for review but I haven't find any good ones. Any thought about this? Thanks in advance.

I find it interesting how many posters after asking how to make money on line tend to disappear when they find out that it might involve some work, talent, skills etc. Working on line is just like any other job....except you can do it in your pajamas! One of the best ways to earn money on line is through muliple ways. I once read a book called,"Do what you love the money will follow" It was a terrific book, but one of the things that has stuck in my mind ever since, is it is easier to find 10 ways to make $100 a month than find one way to make $1000. You start with one thing, and then add another and then another till you have a lot of plates spinning in the air.

In my opinion you should find ways that you can work and make a buck for it: ie. paid surveys, freelance writing etc.

Once you have some semi-consistent online income coming in, it's time to branch out. As others have suggested, SEO and article marketing are two ways to go about it...but I wouldn't have my mortgage rely on those two approaches.

          Hope that helps.

There are countless ways to earn online. I just realized that after I left my current job. I'd known online work five years ago through article writing which I wasn't really good at. After that I tried selling online too. Both gave me an income I could be proud of since I can do it at home while taking care of my daughter. Unfortunately, working a 8 hr job knocked on my door and I gave it. A lot of things happen after that and now I'm back again working home based and online through SEO. Since I'm new to this stuff again, my earning aren't that great but I know in due time I could definitely provide for my family and save some too for the future!

              seo

              Hi Abdullah,

I make a living through seo. I have a partner who drums up clients and i do the work on their sites etc. Doesn't take too long to grasp all the essentials and then you'll get better with experience and you can live anywhere with a connection, which is a major plus, as you can choose to live in a cheaper..but hotter...country

How can I make a living online
I do think one of the things that you have to quantify is how much of a living do you want to make? All you income to support yourself and family, home etc. or are you talking about making some spare cash, or making a part time income.

There are really lots of ways to make money on line, but whether or not they will provide a 'living' is something else. With doing stuff on line, it isn't like you apply for a job, get hired and a few weeks later you get a check, and a few weeks later another one. As long as you do your job well, the company doesn't go bust, you can budget what you earn and learn to live within your income.

On line earning a living is totally different. First you have to figure out what you are going to do, then start working towards your goal and depending on what you are doing you might get some income in a month or two or three or maybe one of the things you signed up for takes 1-2 years to earn a pay out. Some manage to make spectacular incomes on line with affiliate marketing and using adsense. Others might make less than $100 a year (Google adsense pays out when your income goes over $100 during a month. Writing a blog might make you, if you are lucky, 25 cents a month in adsense revenue. Doing surveys etc. might make you a couple of dollars a month or much more like someone here makes about $400/month (but that isn't a living is it?).

Selling on line can help you get to that point of making a living faster, but it depends on what you choose to sell, your costs to acquire it, your talent for selling, how much the venue sucks out of you, etc. Some selling on line make thousands every month while others earn $25.

Not saying any of this to discourage you, but you do need to get those thought of instant riches out of your head, Research your heart and brains out to find out what might be opportunities that work the best for you. If your goal is to make $50,000 a month from a blog, then that had better be a primo blog not one that you write a short two sentence post with poor spelling and grammar and sit back and wait for the money to roll in. You need to find something you are passionate about, that you have knowledge of, and write your heart out.

Plan what to do, don’t just jump into the first opportunity that comes along and above all else, DON'T pay money for great opportunities.

                      hard work...

concur completely with Gailette. too many times people think there's ways to earn easy money online but usually it takes the same discipline and direction to make money as anywhere else

I totally agree with your input. Working in a company is different with working online since you have to pay for your own benefits unlike when you are under a company. And yeah, be aware that there are a lot of scams online so never pay for something that you think is too good to be true because they really are NOT TRUE!

We have been selling on line for over ten years. While we have had some great months, we have never yet managed to earn a complete 'living' from it. I have observed some folks that with high hopes of a great return, sign up to sell merchandise out of a 'catalog' of goods. They don't have any product themselves as they use drop shippers. They post companies products on as many sites as they can, with the exact same titles and listing information and photos as thousands of other sellers. Because none of these people know their products that can't set themselves apart from other sellers and inevitably within a week or two of listing all their stuff they are on the venue's forums wondering why their stuff isn't selling! Well could be too many people are selling the same stuff, they have no passion for their business or what they are selling, and they have no interest in doing what is needed to promote their stores. They just want to make money.

If you want to sell on line, find your own UNIQUE product, take great photos of it, write an excellent description of what you are selling with a great listing title and then promote that listing in as many ways as you can. You will need to learn about SEO (search engine optimization), bookkeeping, promotion, marketing, packing techniques, how to choose the best shipping system, etc.

I once saw a seller’s store where they had as the listing title of their products as "Rose", or when they really got ambitious, 'pink rose'. They didn't understand why no one was buying. Well who knows what they were selling with titles like? I think it was photographs, but hopefully you get my point.

It is easy when someone asks how to make money on line to throw out a lot of suggestions, but always check that suggestion out. Does that person do it? Do they make money? About how much? Otherwise it is sort of like hiring a financial consultant to help you make and invest your money only to find out they are on the verge of personal bankruptcy!

I just hate seeing people waste their time and resources trying out things that won't work for them or requires much more work than the person is interested in doing and since most on line opportunities take a long time to really churn out money, it isn't the stopgap measure if you are about to be forced out of your home. However, if you would like to earn some extra money to set aside for savings or to help the family finances, then yes, find something or several some things that can help you earn money on line while still being at home. If you find that you are making oodles of money then you might want to think about quitting your day job, but remember that on a moments notice places like Google can change what they are doing and suddenly your sales drop 30% in a month and stay that way. Ask me how I know this!

But for those willing to do the research and the work, yes you can make money on line and it can be fun and fulfilling as well.

This is the biggest thing. Most people think that making money on the internet is quick and easy. IF that was the case then everybody would be doing it!

                              Proffesional Blogging/SEO?

You can become a professional blogger. Try using sites like Elance.

There is also social media and online marketing you could easily get into.
That's what I do for a living and although I work in an office, I can easily coordinate working at home if I choose.

There are a number of ways to make money online. You can do data entry work, you can do writing work like writing articles and send them to article submission sites that pay and last but not the least you can sell your old items online and make good cash.
