Do people do this like blood or plasma?

Not that I want to do this. I enjoy giving mine away

But out of curiousity, how does this transaction work?
    How much can you make?

I have no idea but I do know that I've heard reports in the past couple of months of recipients being able to go back and identify the donors. I think that will greatly eliminate guys wanting to do this. If there isn't iron-clad anonymity guaranteed, I can't imagine any man wanting to do this.

Obviously, this can create a child...rather than saving a life. There is a huge difference. I think women can donate eggs for cash, too.

I'm sure you are sheilded from liability. You can't get cornered for child support or anything like that.

But when they become adults, in some states, they have a right to know who their biological father is. It's not really unreasonable to expect you might get a knock on the door someday if you've been splooging in a cup for money. Something to consider.

But this isn't a forum about moral dilemnas.

Yep. BIG difference between donating blood and someday having someone call and say "You saved my life" and donating sperm (or eggs) and having someone show up and say "You're my daddy/mommy." I would welcome that first interaction. The second one, not so much.

I contemplated doing this myself, but afterwards decided against it for personal reasons. That being said, I have no problem if someone else does it so as long as they are aware of the possible issues that might arise in the future.

Twenty years ago I knew a guy who was doing this. Things have probably changed since then. I know he had STD tests regularly including the swab in the urethra. I believe he was eligible to donate twice a week but each time he had to abstain for 2 days before the donation. The sperm count was important. If the sperm count from the first donation was okay he received $75. If the sperm count from the second donation for the week was okay he received $125. I can't remember if those were the exact numbers but I remember that it was a decent amount of money for a college guy 20 years ago for only five minutes of 'work'.

Only five minutes, but it was hard work.

I forgot to mention that the donations had to occur very early in the morning before 7:00 am.

I imagine it was hard work!

For $75-$125 a week it would be worth considering. But its a no since the children would be able to contact you later. What if you donated for a long time? You could have dozens of kids showing up at your door!

If you were an ER watcher, one of the doctors had been an active sperm donor. One day about six of "his" kids showed up at the ER. It was pretty funny, although not realistic (they were all under 18).

I could never do that, mainly because I would always have it in the back of my head that I have an unknown kid

I think I might just have to draw the line at this one. It's obviously a personal choice.
