I wish I could use the $1 shampoo. But if I don't use this one particular shampoo that costs over $20 a bottle, I pretty much walk around with an afro, and I can't really pull that off as a white chick. I do keep my hair on the short side in an attempt to use less of that shampoo, but even that's a fine line because haircuts cost money. For my husband, we just whip out the clippers and we're done. Sigh, it's not as easy for girls.

Pretty sure 1$ shampoo by today's standards will be terrible for your hair, eventually leaving you with none = no need for shampoo. Problem solved!Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you're stupid and make bad choices.

Personally I think you rock the afro.Originally posted by HundredK View PostI wish I could use the $1 shampoo. Hit the tanning bed a few times and you might land yourself a job with the NAACP.

$1 shampoos according to some extreme couponers to be way too much. My wife purchased 10 full size pantene pro v shampoos from Target for 3 dollars and 15 cents after buying coupons, coupon stacking, and gift cards they give you.
So if you are really into saving money with household items, there are many websites that teaches you how to play the coupon stacking game.

That would be awesome if Pantene worked on my hair. I do wait for 20% off coupons from places like Ulta, and try to use membership rewards points to pay for it whenever possible.Originally posted by Singuy View Post$1 shampoos according to some extreme couponers to be way too much. I just checked Giftcardgranny.com and they have Ulta gift cards for 11% off at the moment. That would give you another nice discount.Originally posted by HundredK View PostI do wait for 20% off coupons from places like UltaSteve

The problem is some of the websites teach you ways to use coupons fraudulently.Originally posted by Singuy View Post$1 shampoos according to some extreme couponers to be way too much. No doubt in my mind that extreme couponers are the reason CVS deals all but disappeared. They used to have several FREE after Extra Care Bucks items in their ad each and every week, with limits of FIVE per item. I would walk out of there with 5 deodorants, 5 shampoos, 5 toothpaste, etc. Now I don't even look at their ads they have sucked for so long.
As for the Pantene, my hair stylist that cuts my wife's hair said it is one of the worst shampoos out there. I don't have an opinion on it myself. Just sharing what my wife was told.

I'm sure right after she told her that, she pointed out the much better and far more expensive "only available in salons" product that she recommended instead.Originally posted by DaveInPgh View PostAs for the Pantene, my hair stylist that cuts my wife's hair said it is one of the worst shampoos out there.Steve

I'm sure. One of the downsides of the internet and reality TV is that it teaches everyone and anyone how to take advantage of loopholes for fun and profit. Unfortunately for most normal folks, it forces the companies to close the loopholes.Originally posted by DaveInPgh View PostNo doubt in my mind that extreme couponers are the reason CVS deals all but disappeared.Steve

Actually that was not the case. She asked her what she was using because there was a lot of build up in her hair.Originally posted by disneysteve View PostI'm sure right after she told her that, she pointed out the much better and far more expensive "only available in salons" product that she recommended instead.
I have seen hairdressers try to sell their product before, but that didn't happen in this case.

That's good to hear. It's much easier to trust what someone is saying when they aren't trying to sell you something.Originally posted by DaveInPgh View PostActually that was not the case. She asked her what she was using because there was a lot of build up in her hair.

I used to try to answer those questions about where people's money went. I'd recommend they get a $.50 notebook and simply write everything down--in or out--that they spend. Then they can put the money in categories.......
And this is the point where they look at me like I'm insane. Because they want to complain and justify why they're a victim, not fix the problem.
I use SUAS (stock up and save). Wait for it to be on sale, use coupons, use rebates or anything else you can find, and buy enough to last until the next time it goes on sale. Which is why I currently have 32 cans of tomato soup (28 cents), etc.
As far as cheap shampoo, I use Suave ($2.79 for huge bottle, hopefully with a coupon) as it's the only one left I can find that doesn't have make-me-insane perfumes in it.
And after all these years, I still use the notebooks to track my spending.

This is why I had a hard time working with the financial advisement company(among a few other reasons) and ultimately stepped out. They were big on teaching people why you need life insurance, health insurance, be out of debt and how to retire (how much to reach a certain yearly income). The information was great, but everything had this salesman feel to it because at the end of the day we were trying to sell them the solutions to the problems we just informed them about with their financial needs analysis. Life insurance, IRAs, Health, etc. I had a stigma everywhere I went that "I'm a salesman," and it is hard for people to trust what you have to say when that is the first thing they see.Originally posted by disneysteve View PostThat's good to hear.
