  • Introducing myself

Hello fellow savers. This is my first post as a new member. I've been reading the forums here for awhile and finally joined. Just a little info on myself, I am 41 years old, a heavy equipment mechanic, I have very little in savings. Back in 2010 I lost my job due to the economy and went through my savings trying to make ends meet and keep my house until I found another job.

I'm really starting to buckle down and really need to save for retirement and just to have money in the bank again. I have a small Roth IRA that at the moment I have $100 a month automatically going into. When I get a couple more debts paid off I plan on depositing more into the Roth. I have gotten out of a couple of my hobbies to help save money. I used to have a couple of classic vehicles that were expensive to keep up and since I rarely drove them I finally sold them to help with some debt. I don't miss them. I now enjoy my classic John Deere garden tractors and since I have a large enough lawn and driveway I can enjoy using them for mowing the lawn and plowing the snow in the winter. They are not near as stressful or expensive to keep going. My new hobby now is saving money!

I'm looking forward to more time here on SA. Thank you for reading.

Welcome to the forum. Your already better off then a lot of people, saving $100. a month is a good start, even at 41. As things hopefully improve financially and you can add to that, you'll be surprised at how fast a few years can change things.

I'm the poster child for saving small amounts over a long period and having great success. Keep up the savings no matter how small.
