  • Getting a loan with very poor credit

Long story short: a few years ago I lost my job, went through my minimal savings to stay in my apartment, a bunch of cards ended up in the hands of debt collectors. I had to move in with my brother out-of-state, so most of my stuff ended up in a PODS thing. I've been working now for two and a half years and have been successfully paying off a car loan (needed for work), another card that avoided debt collection, and my student loans. Nevertheless, I'm still living roughly paycheck-to-paycheck, though a recent raise has helped me put a bit away each month.

I'd like to get my storage unit back, but unfortunately PODS requires about 2700 up-front before they ship it down. Again, my credit is very poor; I can't get a loan from my credit union, and the peer-to-peer services I've checked won't accept me because of my score. I hate pissing away over $200 a month on this thing, and would gladly rather it go to a loan or something so that I can have my stuff back. I own nothing that could be used as collateral (still about 3 years away from paying off the car).

Does anyone have any advice, bar continuing to save what I can (I've only got about $500 in the bank from saving around $50 a month)? Thank you.

Still living with your brother? He knows where you live, and can make sure that you pay him...

Yep .... get a second job or two and bust your tail to get caught up.
You have no business borrowing money at this stage.

What do you have in the POD? Is it worth $200 month + $2700? Would you be better off just letting the PODS people keep it and stop paying? Is it like mini-storage?

I would sell whatever you have in that POD that you don't absolutely need.

Do you have any access to the POD at all if you wanted to sell items?

If you threaten them with a default on payments will they grant you access?

This was my question. I think much of what people keep in storage units isn't worth as much as they pay to store it.

If you are $2.700 in arrears with them, I'm surprised they haven't put the unit up for auction yet.
