  • Door dash grub hub or Uber eats q?

Do you guys use door dash, Uber eats, Postmates, or grub hub,? How much do you guys tip? Have you noticed the prices are higher or lower?

I have used door dash and Uber eats a couple times when free delivery. But I noticed because of a blog post that the prices on menu were higher. I also noticed that the delivery window was longer than expected. And that the food was cold because it took so long.

A lot of the delivery was 50-60 minutes which I got but then it turned into longer.

What has your experience been and do you mind?

I have used several meal delivery services and will tip 20%, but no less than $5. If I’m unwilling to go get it myself I’ll tip someone well.

I haven’t had anything arrive cold, maybe not hot, but never cold. But that’s easily fixed in the microwave.

We do not. When I want take out, which is not terribly often, I call and order it and go pick it up. That way it's hot and fresh. It isn't sitting around waiting for the driver to come back from his last run. It isn't sitting in his car while he delivers 3 other orders. I'm there when it is ready and take it straight home.

My wife and daughter will order delivery sometimes when I'm at work but they just order from a restaurant that offers delivery so there's no 3rd party involved.

      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

I do not use these services personally but have many co-workers / friends who do.
Worked with one person who drove for door dash thinking he would make a lot in tips but said it did not pay off like he was expecting.
I also remember a vivid conversation at work where a person said her and BF used alot then by chance went into favorite restaurant and ordered the exact same thing they had delivered weekly and it was MUCH cheaper and she said she quit using delivery right then.

Many at work use lunch delivery but as it seems to sit on the security desk for awhile before they come to lobby to pick up their food, I see people trying to heat up whatever they ordered in microwave. If i want to re-heat i will stick with food from home.
Since many of these delivered may be left with door person or in my work case security............... the tip must have been when ordered and what incentive is there to deliver promptly or anything if your tip is already done.

That's why when we do get delivery, we do it from places that offer delivery themselves. Prices are the same plus maybe a small delivery fee of $1 or $2.

That happens at my job too but more because we can't just drop what we're doing and eat the minute the food arrives. If between the time you ordered and the time the food gets there, 5 patients came in, you might need to wait for a lull in the action before you can step away for a few minutes to grab a bite to eat. And it's worse for the providers as we don't get breaks at all. The staff does get a 30-minute break each day. I almost never order delivery at work, though. Maybe 3 or 4 times a year.

I haven't, but I do occasionally have food delivered from the local pizza shop.
I tip the driver well. 15 to 20 percent

I almost never order food for delivery. I always prefer to either eat in the restaurant, or at least pick it up myself. Nothing against delivery folks, but in most cases, I've typically found delivery to result in slow, cold food that I paid an extra few dollars for in delivery fee & tip. Large pizza orders (like buying for my office) are pretty much the only exception, in both cases -- I'll occasionally get pizza delivered, and they seem to do a better job of delivering it timely & hot.

Interesting. I don't really do it but everyone I know does it a lot They talk about using it almost daily. I was curious but nearly died at paying $4.99 fee plus tip. That easily starts at $10 to the meal if not higher if you are tipping more. Seemed a bit outrageous. And then to find out it costs more the meals. That pushed me against using them. I don't love delivery except for pizza I'll be honest. I'm still really creeped out by all those articles of people eating the food they deliver.

I know delivery can be a godsend when someone is homebound or is hosting a crowd.
But I've never used the services you mentioned. I can count on 1 hand the number of times I've ordered delivery food in the past 25+ years. And each time it was delivered directly from a Chinese restaurant or pizza place, and delivered within 30-35 minutes give or take. Tip, probably used to be 10% and nowadays it would be 15% (tips have inflated over time). I've never had a small delivery order, so I've never thought about a "minimum tip" or worried that 15% might be too small.

I will say this, I found it to be mildly annoying to be in the middle of placing an order at the local sandwich shop after waiting in line for 5 minutes, to have the cashier drop my order and rush over and process a doordash order. Then they haggled back and forth about what the customer ordered. It seemed disjointed as a whole.

I have sworn off using DoorDash after my food was stolen several times. Haven't have that problem with any other delivery service.

How was it stolen? Did they never actually deliver it?

Correct. The app showed it was picked up, and then they never showed up. The app goes from "Delivery on its way" to "Delivered." The driver just drives off with it.

I hope they gave you your money back, or resent your order.

Well, could you complain to Doordash? Get a credit?
