They offer to credit your account immediately for what you were charged, or charge back your debit card if you don't mind waiting 3-5 days.

But after the 6th or 7th time, having your food stolen by some low-rent carnival trash starts to wear on you. Mostly it's DoorDash's generally ambivalent attitude toward the whole thing.

And for whatever reason, I've never run into this with any other independent delivery service.

That’s nuts. I can’t blame you for never using them again. And it’s weird because often the same person will deliver for more than one company to keep busy, just like people drive for both Lyft and Uber.

Pizza delivery is the one exception I'm willing to make.

We tried uber eats and doordash recently because we live close to services now, and they sucked. The food arrived late, cold, and the driver looked like a meth addict. I've never ridden in an uber and don't plan to and was hesitant to use them for food delivery- I have horrible things to say about the gig economy which I'll keep to myself. Long story short: The service sucked and I'd rather just go get food or have pizza delivered.

So very much better than a taxi all around. Cheaper, cleaner, friendlier drivers, etc. We haven't used them a lot but every time we have has been a great experience.

I will admit to harboring some weirdness on this one and that my views are very different from the norm. I'm not a big-city guy and avoid anything in dense urban environments and hate being dependent on a ride (uber OR taxi), or public transit. Someday my travels will force the issue but I'll cross that bridge when I have to. Yup, I'm weird.

i haven't had much luck we tried a few more times the door dash and it keeps coming late. We have the CSR card and my DH uses it to pay for door dash for work lunches and it's fine. He orders the morning a large order and it gets delivered. But at home I think it's painful.

I think we tip about 15% to 20%, but I do think this type of “pre-tipping” may be more comfortable, but not the proper way to reward good service. It would probably be most true to bust out cash and tip AFTER the delivery is complete. (This may not pro-actively motivate the person, because I believe they see the income/opportunity of the contract before they accept it and complete the food order). Cash is now inconvenient to most of us (i feel).

FWIW, for Uber/Lyft driving, on average only 30% of people even leave tips. So anything you tip those drivers, I’m sure, will be happily received.

***I just recently signed up for Door Dash (same thing as all of these “grub hub” “Uber eats” , etc... ). I think I can start on Friday (waiting for something in the mail that should arrive by then). I’ll update this thread w/ my first few experiences (pro/con) to give us all a slightly better view @ how the sausage is made!

I currently drive for Eatstreet (just like doordash etc..) With Eatstreet we have no idea if the person ordering gives a prepaid tip or not. We don't know until after the order is delivered. I would say about 25-30% of my deliveries don't tip. For me any tip over a dollar or two is appreciated. I do like the cash tips better though. I have had several deliveries where the order is $50 and no tip or I get a 16 cent tip. On the flip side I have had a $10 order with a $5.00 tip. I can see it from the diners side about not tipping until delivery is complete, but from the driver's side, no matter how good your service is if you don't get anything, it can be deflating as heck.

Part of the other issue that we as drivers have is sometimes the restaurants will tell us to pick up in 10 minutes and we get there, and then it is another 20 minutes before it is done and ready for us to go. So that may be the reason it is later than expected sometimes.

But that is all just my 10 cents.
