  • Capital One 360 $500 bonus

SA may have brought me a nice $500 pickup. Saw this banner ad today on SA:

Open an account, deposit $50k, leave it there for 90 days and they give you $500. And it's .075% after that. That's better than the interest I am earning on my EF money right now. Thinking I might have to do this. How do I transfer $50k in 10 days, thought? My bank only allows $2,500 / day in EFT's.

Wow. That's bad. Might be time for a new bank.

That's awesome. Thanks for sharing. I agree with scfr; your bank should do better than that.

What bank do you have? If it's anything worth its salt, you just need to call them. They can set up & authorize (with a manager's approval) transactions at least in excess of $10k. Above that level requires IRS reporting, but it's still totally doable. Talk to your bank, it shouldn't be a problem. I've done transfers for $25k in the past, it just requires some time on the phone (or in your bank's local branch)

Capitol One seems confident they can extract $50k from my bank so I'll see how they do.

Wow, thats a great deal for the bonus, and I guess .75% is not bad depending on how much you have to deposit. My CU is hooking me up with 1.25% (up to 25K) on my checking account though. (AAFCU) I cant find any other bank that will even come close to that these days...

Why do you have $50k liquid? Emergency fund? Just got out of the stock market? Just sold something?

Yup, emergency fund. If I need it before the 100 days is up, then I miss out on my $500. Actually, I have enough other liquid funds (car fund, college fund, etc...) that I could cover 100 days of EF if I needed to.

CapitalOne was successful. 90 days, $500. That will go into the vacation fund for next year.

Congratulations! If you decide to pursue more bank bonuses later the web site DepositAccounts.com is the place to look.

If anyone else is interested in pursuing this Capitol One 360 bonus, they also offer the 1% bonus at lower deposit amounts. I had an ad in the mail from them yesterday.

Agree, great tip. Easy way to make a quick $500. for transferring some cash. As for the question about why anyone has $50,000. laying around in cash, I tend to keep around 20% of my investments in cash. If things go to s**t, I still have my $200,000 in cash. (and having a pension helps)

You might want to take a look at Liberty Trust Credit Union = they have a checking account that pays 2.5% interest (up to 25k) if you meet some stipulations (1 direct deposit a month, 1 online bill pay a month, 12 debit transactions a month)

Just closed my $50,000 Wells Fargo account making a whopping .25% in order to get this $500. bonus plus a better rate. Wells Fargo guy couldn't blame me. Luckily the rest of my cash is also earning a much better rate.

Darn! I already have a CapitalOne Savings account, thus not eligible (see fine print) I probably could have made $400 on a $40K deposit.
