  • Paid off my house today!!

I do not post very often, but I wanted to share our good news. Do not feel right telling friends or neighbors, feel like it would be bragging. So, i will do a little anonymous bragging to some like minded internet friends.

Would love to be debt free, but the $65,000 student loan @ 1.875% will take awhile. Do I want to pay off a loan with that low of interest rate?

Stick with your debt reduction, slow and steady wins the race.

Congrats on the mortgage! That's great.
      Steve

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
      * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

                  Great news, congrats!

Regarding the student loan, I'd keep chipping away at it with minimum payments. If the interest rate is not fixed, then I would put extra toward the principal every payment once the rate goes up.

In the meantime, with the money you now have available due to paying off your house, max out your 401k and your Roth IRA every year, and build up an emergency fund. It might also be a good idea to save a couple hundred into a Car Fund so that you will not need to get a car loan in the future.

What further tips can you give the rest of us? What did you do to pay off your mortgage faster?

Good for you! I'm still a couple of years behind you but it already feels good. Instead of feeling like bragging you should be proud of yourself. People like you and I are a rarity, I have friends and family in the same age bracket as me (50's) that will never be in our position simply because of making poor choices, not there income level.

Enjoy that extra money every month!

Wonderful to be mortgage free! It's a huge milestone and makes you part of a select group, congratulations! We did a little [mock] mortgage burning ceremony to make it feel real. Does that sound weird? What's your plan going forward? If you're accustomed to a set deduction will you simply re-direct it to an investment portfolio? or?
