But I understand the OP's logic. In all honesty, why would you buy a new dresser, couch, desk, desktop computer, etc right before you move? You generally wouldn't.
And to answer the question, I'd just dump the money into an investment account. I actually don't have very many consumer desires. If I want it, I'll simply buy it, but I generally don't "want it". for example, I have an 8 year old LCD tv. Do I plan on getting a new one? Nope, not unless it breaks.

We kept the boxes for our plasma tv's. Movers packed them back up and they arrived just fine at our destination. But I don't see any reason to buy until after the move either.
If it were me, I'd buy new furniture...my 16 year old couches really show wear. But next, I'd put the money on the mortgage. Can't you put some to the tv and the rest to something else?My other blog is Your Organized Friend.
