No, the Mansions don't anger me per se but obscene salaries for some people do anger me.

I think there is a point where you are profit-driven/capitalistic and another point where you are just being a pig.

That seemed to be lost on the recent Wall Street executives.

It is amazing to see the excessive spending, but if they honestly earned it (or inherited it), then whatever they want to spend their money on, I just hope they are also giving to charity.

The ones I have problems with are those that get quick money, get into drugs because "oh, I had so much money I didn't know what to do with it". Well, I could think of plenty things and plenty of places that could use money other than drug dealers.

Also those in the ministry that got carried away with the monies and had things like air conditioned dog houses. Especially as a minister, there should be so many places you can think to help others less fortunate, that you couldn't possibly waste it on frivolous stuff.

When I see HUGE houses I think how much time it would take to clean, or how could you have family time if you can't locate each other in a big house. I also think property taxes, mortgage, ect. Of course we have to assume that with this kind of money, they don't worry about that either.

My problem is all the folks buying McMansions and then going around complaining that they've got no money or how much credit card debt they have. Those are the ones who annoy me.
        Yeah ditto that.

Like most of the previous responders, I am somewhat indifferent. I believe that you should be able to do pretty much whatever you want with your own money (provided that you earned your money honestly).

Personally, if my net worth was phenomenal enough to afford a mega-mansion, I don't think purchasing one would be out of the question. I think it would be a lot of fun and a true escape from life's hardship. That said, having a little less house and spending that money elsewhere (i.e. for a plane) would probably my own preference.

since there are so many needy people in the world that could benefit from the money, it seems indulgent to me that you would live that way but to each his own

I think I understand where you are coming from here, and I would feel wrong if I was uber-successful and didn't regularly give to church and other charities. I guess I just feel that if you have done extremely well and homes and other things are what you enjoy, there's nothing morally wrong with having them. I guess I am saying that I am okay with indulging yourself if you remember to help others along the way. I don't think it is easy to get that successful unless you help others anyway. Who wants to go into business with a selfish jerk?

I find mega mansions excessive, but in no way do they anger me. I love a country where everyone can achieve that status. I would never own one.

I can't say I would never own one if I had that kind of money. I don't understand the Hollywood mindset and the need for these things like this but it's hardly uncommon and almost expected it seems. They really are like a small buisness in terms of the people employed from the ground up and as long as it needs to be maintained.

Indifference. I try to just mind my own business.

Hey, you gotta have someplace to live.

I'm indifferent. If that's what a person wants to spend their money on, then so be it. I'm sure there are people who think what I spend my money on (or would spend it on if I had that kind of money) is pointless.

But I think it would be fun to play hide-and-seek or sardines in a house that size.

far be it for me, to define what is morally wrong. I just think that there are folks in the world that don't even have shoes on their feet. I feel bad and guilty living in a 1500 sq. feet home with a 1/4 lot and having a lot of stuff !! I guess as we age or grow we define what is truly important to us. I do believe in giving back.

Who cares how someone spends their own money. It's THEIR money. No one else is entitled to it. I'll never understand people that are resentful to the uber rich. Most of the rich became rich thru hard work. Let them blow their money however they see fit. Personally, I couldn't care about how the rich spend their $$$.

I see the views of both this and the OP to be a mixture of envy, jealousy, and greed. Someone else has something very nice. You dont think they should have it. And in some cases you think it should be taken away from them and given to others who didnt earn it.

So long as they didnt steal what they have or come to it illegally, it should be theirs and theirs alone.

Hopefully they do donate money to charitys, probably tens of thousands of dollars a year. But if they dont, its still theirs to do with as they please.
