Wow...i just saw on another thead someone mentioned their NJ property tax is $7,200 a year??!!! gosh!! i couldn't imagine having to pay that much!!!!!

we just got our yearly tax bill in a few weeks ago... and it's a whopping $398. It went up.

We're n South Carolina, and we live in a 1150 sq ft ranch style home, 3bd, 2 bth, on close to one acre. we have a huge screened in patio room in the back corner of the yard (edit: sorry i said year earlier..haha..), a nice deck attatched to the back, and we're only a few miles from our fast growing capital. so its not like we have a little one room dump of a place out in the sticks. we're in a major subburb... i guess SC's cost of living is much lower than even i ever realized.

What are other property taxes like?? I couldn't imagine having to go through each year knowing we'd have to pay close to 10k just in property tax. gosh, how does anyone survive?????

We're in NJ and our taxes were right around $7,000 last year and I consider myself lucky. I talk to friends who live nearby and scan the real estate ads and we're on the low end. I know one couple who live about a mile from me and have a home that isn't much bigger than mine and they pay about $12,000.

$4k. 1% value (paid for house) plus a $1k bond.

I consider us lucky because our taxes are limited to something like 2% inflation per year. If based on value it would have been $7k easy the last couple of years. (California).

I know plenty of people in the Bay Area who pay $8k-$10k. It's just 1%, but houses are so expensive.

2700 sq ft house (value $430000) in Rhode Island - property tax = $4600 per year. We also have an income and sales tax. We are #8 on the list and we feel it. We are one of the states that also tax military retirements so we are getting taxed in every direction.

$950 for < 1000 sq feet, city, tiny lot too. This is less than I probably said on the previous thread, as I must have applied the formula incorrectly.

Also have "personal property tax," city income tax, state income tax, sales taxes at all levels of government. Sales tax is even levied on food (and until recently on prescription meds). There are a variety of other usage fees not called taxes for reasons I do not know. Even so, our overall tax rate is below average for the USA.

I'm a renter, so not sure.

My parents (in NY) pay 18k in property taxes, and it's skyrocketed in the last few years. Their house is a 4 BR Colonial

We live in Minnesota. 1000 sq ft ranch with 1200 sq ft garage and lot and half - yes my husband picked out our starter home....next time I want 1000 sq foot bathroom!

Our city doesn't charge taxes so it's not too bad. We have no assessments but with levies we pay about $1100. It could be worse. I don't know how anyone can live in NJ unless they make $100K+ a year by the sounds of it. yuck!

our gas is staying low too -- we're keeping steady at about $2.77 a gallon in my area, and i think the highest its ever gotten is about $3.20 on the other side of town...
