They probably would not be a disaster, but they would be strained. I think that there is an overriding belief that the Duggars are a traditional down home family with good values and a simple life. And, they may very well be good people. I know that they are devote Christians. I just wonder how much of what you see is for television? What happens when the cameras stop rolling? The childred are not allowed to watch tv, but the parents inked a multi million dollar multi season deal with TLC. Is that hypocritical? This show is almost like some sort of spectacle akin to a circus side show. It's almost like they keep having kids to keep the show going and keep the money rolling in.

It sounds like a pretty standard religious belief system. Pro-create pro-create pro-create. Several in my own family had 10-20 kids - both our families are Catholic.

Actually the girls have 5 career tracks one of which is midwifery. I find it difficult according to the midwife standards that they can become accredited without ever leaving their home. But then again only five chosen careers. Also I don't think any of the children have a college degree or certificate.

Also Jim Bob is in line to take over from IBLP from Bill Gothard. On the coupon website I follow there is a huge thread about them and it's very interesting to read about this religion.

If memory serves, Gothard has some very hateful views on adoption. I had never connected that to Quiver Full. I didn't need a second reason to find the POV revolting, misogyny being more than sufficient, but now I have it.

Isn't it too early to start expecting their kids to have college degrees? Most of them are still quite young, in the clips I viewed. Wikipedia says only 3 of them are over age 20. As someone said, the oldest has a business. It is a used car dealership. The next two who are twins--I don't know what they do, but they turned 22 in January. Sixteen of their kids are 20 years and under. I am surprised if any children/young adults have a college degree so young.

Only about 28% of the US population even has a degree. A quick Google search suggests that under 19% of Arkansans have a degree. So we shouldn't be surprised if none of them get a degree, regardless of their unusual family.

Their kids don't seem brain dead to me. People have free will, these kids and young adults included.

For many people out there, Bill Gothard's views have damaged them. Growing up under an "umbrella of authority" that calls for submission and domination has left grown-up children with no plans for life.

I have not met him, but this is definitely a cult. The Duggars' show omits this part of their belief system. I find the "blanket training" particularly bothersome.
