The only thing that we’ve recently cut was our annual Peacock subscription. Likely time for us to do a subscription review - as I’m sure we have too many.

As we head toward retirement I’m paying more attention to prices. We have resources and we’ll be just fine - but I certainly understand the sentiment that we have a growing affordability “crisis” (keeping this apolitical).

I can't say this one applies 100% of the time ... But when we moved to Japan, we switched to a cell phone plan with zero included mobile data, posting by the GB. I figured we would struggle with it, especially my wife (who previously used 15-20GB of data every month back in the States) .... But with very little exception, we're able to rely on Wi-Fi connectivity quite easily. Most months, we only need to pay for 50-100MB of mobile data (those rare, random instances when we don't have Wi-Fi but we do need to get online for something).

Now, we get to enjoy a monthly cell phone bill (for 2 phones) around $45-$55, depending on how much mobile data we do use. It's been a delightful surprise.

        1. We cut "cable" about 18 months ago (satellite, actually, we don't have cable or fiber available here). We replaced it with Youtube TV. I don't miss Satellite and actually, we've been thinking about cutting Youtube TV as well--we just don't watch it very much.

        2. I have half a mind to say let's cut Amazon Prime. It seems like every time I need a few things, the most important things aren't going to arrive overnight/ 2-day anyhow. The one thing I don't need right now is available by 5am the next day on the doorstep. That's starting to lose the point for me when shipments are chopped up and arrive over multiple days. What happened to having almost everything in the box, shipped in 2 days or less?

        3. I cut out alcohol completely 2.5 years ago. I can't say I don't miss it occasionally, but I'm literally saving about $20 per sit-down restaurant meal out, and another $20/40 weekly on the grocery bill. I've also dropped all my covid weight plus some. I didn't stop with the intention of "forever", but I'm on a roll, and it's been good.

        History will judge the complicit.
