My husband is a 16/8 for the most part and I do it as well. Mostly we just skip breakfast and the kids are the same unfortunately. Part of it on the weekdays we leave so early for school the kids are too tired to eat. Then on weekends when we all sleep in till noon well the 16/8 happens without trying.

Do you have anything positive to contribute to the tread?

See above where I've encouraged those who think fasting is working for them. And with any health advice dispensed on social media, it should probably be reviewed with a qualified health professional to address any additional needs or underlying causes.

                No doubt.

One other important point on fasting is considering how you're planning to break it and your diet post fast.

Only speaking from my perspective of water fasting, I usually break with a fruit smoothie. Banana, a can of pineapple, and a cup of frozen berries in my Blend-Tec taste amazing.

During extended fasts I usually keep a Snicker bar in my pocket in the off chance that I have any issues. Only once on a 7 day fast did I break it by eating about half of it. Within minutes your out of ketosis.

Following the fast (or even if you don't fast) consider adding some yogurt to your diet. Look for products that list "live cultures". The bacteria in your gut can have some effect on your overall health. Apart from yogurt, you can buy probiotic pills, they can be expensive ($80 a bottle iirc), if you go that route, ask the pharmacy for the ones they keep refrigerated.

During fasting psychologically my mind thinks I need nutrients so I take multivitamins & minerals, vitamin D, calcium, magnesium, flax seed oil, etc. This is where I thought about starting the supplements thread. And I'm not sure by taking supplements it'll mess up the fasting process.

Probably low impact, since most multivitamin tablets don't have any calories. But your body may be unable to absorb some of it effectively -- I know that a variety of vitamins/minerals should be eaten with food to support absorption.

I thought probably low impact as you mentioned kork. Microsoft's AI Copilot explains this about fasting.

To me fasting is the best way to achieve optimal health and it's free and doesn't cost me anything. Or you can argue like the guy on the internet until the cows come home.

Ha-ha, good point. Come to think of it I lean more towards AI than traditional medicine which treats the symptoms with meds rather than the root causes.

That probably depends on the kind of healthcare you seek. There are so many different ways to access good healthcare providers and good treatment. But, it's not worth arguing, as you have a very negative view of medicine, and if googling and using AI for healthcare gives you the answers you're seeking, I can't steer you differently.

Fasting helps my blood sugar. I'm not diabetic but have family history of it so I'm keeping my eye on it. Here's a specific example. Friday May 30, I ate 3 meals with my last meal being eaten on May 31 at 3:00 am. I work 10 hour shifts from 4:00 pm - 2:30 am. That last meal consisted of 1/2 a baked potato w/a 1/4" inch slice of melted butter, 1/2 a roasted chicken breast w/Lawry's seasoning, and boiled broccoli. I woke up on May 31 at 11:00 am and my blood sugar was 101. At 6 pm same day my blood sugar was 104 which I was surprised it went up when I thought it would go down but my blood sugar was still spiking from that last meal on May 31 at 3:00 am. At this point I figured to bring my blood sugar down I would fast for 24 hours only drinking water. When my shift ended on June 1 at 2:30 am (23.5 hour fast), I tested again and finally got a 93 blood sugar level. If only to keep my blood sugar levels under 100, I'll keep fasting for this benefit alone, never mind the glycogen breakdown or ketosis, but if I can get that benefit as well great.
