For everyone who looks forward to the Target 10% off.
I saw this on the Target web site….

Target is gearing up to make the holidays bright with great deals, our largest holiday assortment ever and an industry-leading team.

We got our $500 worth. It'll be gone in a few months. I wish the limit was higher but I understand why it isn't.

We also got 20% off a Boscov's gift card so we've got that to use too.

Ah, fooey, I missed it. I did not realize how much we buy at Target until we started buying these gift cards. I think not only of the 10% discount, but the little kickback from the credit card I use to purchase the gift cards.

Yeah, the Target 10% off deal is a no-brainer for us. We shop there regularly. That $500 card will be gone before mid-year.

Is there a reason that you didn’t have your wife and/or daughter buy cards too?

We’ve gotten more than one in the past but $500 is fine. That lasts for months. And this time of year we take advantage of several other gift card deals too so we end up dropping $1,000 or so between them all.

                  My funny story.....
You know how Target does not automatically print out activation gift receipts for the gift cards and you have to tell them you want the activation gift receipts before they started ringing anything up? (And, the process to get the activation receipts printed after the transaction has gone through can be onerous.)

We did remember to tell the cashier before ringing up the transaction. The cashier had just paused to replace the cash register receipt paper and when it came time to get our receipt and activation receipts....as luck would have it--something went wrong and nothing would print! It took an extra half hour of hemming and hawing, fiddling and faddling, and consultations with many staff members before we were able to leave with our gift receipts.

Most business (now-a-days) automatically print a gift activation slip for each gift card. If a business doesn't do it, I generally will not buy gift cards from them..... Target will print them out, but only if you ask for them in advance. The first time this happened the cashier told me--I should have told her before she started ringing me up if I wanted the gift card activation slip. (I thought it would have been nice if she had asked me if I wanted an activation slip before she started ringing them up, if that was their procedure.... but, I digress).

But, yes, every time we give someone a gift card we attach the gift activation slip. Why? Because we have had some faulty gift card transactions. In one case the gift activation slip actually said the transaction failed but it wasn't noticed until we tried to redeem it (yes, the $$ had been taken out of our account, but it just didn't get posted to the gift card). We were able go back to the merchant and get the gift card re-issued. Over the years, I have received a card that had issues and could not be used (no activation slip came with it). Also, I've had cards that I'd sent to family members via Amazon that did not get properly activated (no idea what happened, but we were able to get the situation corrected). So, it does happen.

I haven't ordered any Target gift cards online since maybe 2020(?) when it took forever to get the cards (it was sometime in January before we received them). I don't know if it was Target or the Post Office, but i sure did worry about whether I would receive them and I decided after that I preferred the in person approach.

When you buy them online you can get them electronically so there’s no mailing issue to worry about. You get the code and can add it to your account right away.

I had them mailed to me because they were supposed to be gifts (but, they arrived way too late). It is a nice feature to be able to add them to your account if they are for personal use, but if they are meant to be given away as gifts I like to have the gift activation receipt.

Makes sense. When I give gift cards as gifts I always include the receipt too. Also, the cards don't have the amount on them. I usually write it on with a Sharpie but having the receipt is good too.

Benihana 40% - 60% back for gift cards. I'm not much into Benihana but maybe someone else might.
