I always turn off the lights in rooms I'm not in, and when I leave the house.

So many products and packages are designed in such a way as to cause waste unless you go out of your way to get out every last drop. We have a little device called Flip It (I think) that you screw onto bottles like shampoo or conditioner so that the bottles can stand upside down and let you drain out the last bits that would otherwise get thrown away. The first time I used it on an "empty" bottle of conditioner, I was able to keep using that bottle for 2-3 more weeks before I finally tossed it.

Oh, and we got the Flip It kit for free from our Buy Nothing group so it didn't cost us anything. Win win.

Then call me Suzy Silly! I think someone would have to follow me from dawn to dusk taking notes in order to make note of all of my frugal habits that are beyond the financial need to do so, from big (2 adults sharing 1 car) to small (when a bottle of condiment like ketchup or salad dressing gets "empty" I grab the neck and swing it around backwards a few times to have centrifugal force push - or is it pull? - the remainder to the neck of the bottle, store upside down in the fridge, and get a few more servings out of it). Learned the ketchup trick in the 80's when a waitress in college and been doing it at home ever since.

LOL. We are definitely all members of that same club here clearly based on the responses in this thread.

I am reflecting today on how much frugality is innate in the people on this board. So to me there are A LOT of frugal people who know how to stretch our dollars. We never waste food. We spend "consciously" not frugally. BIG difference. I told my girl scout troop we are consciously spending not budgeting. Budgeting sounds bad and made my DK1 debate between at $5.49 and $5.99 pizza at trader joes. You know what to do? How about not buying snacks you won't eat or finish and not wasting food and you'll save the 50 cents instead!

All these people talk the talk about being "frugal" and budgeting, but they waste food and money on crap. They don't actually walk the walk. They buy a bag to carry groceries for 25 cents. I brought reuseable compact foldable to a wallet size grocery bags in my backpack to carry groceries when i'm TRAVELING. I have a flat pack insulated lunch bag! They want to buy one so we can buy sandwiches to the zoo. I said to not overbuy fruit but they keep buying becaues they are going to eat it. Bought an entire box of cereal for 1 person for 3 days. It's just unconscinable. I made every girl bring a gallon size bag of snacks so the troop wouldn't waste money buying snacks for everyone and throwing away 50% or more. I suggested lunches out while we are being "tourist" and dinners at airbnb. I also suggested meals that were simple and easy to make.

I am not perfect but I gotta say I brought my own laundry pods and dish pods just in case. So I don't need to buy an entire bag and leave it behind. Just stuff like that. I brought extra ziploc bags so I don't have to buy a box. I hear "budget" and i want to scream. Try stretching your dollars further to begin with.

I know you guys on here are weirdos like they say. And it biases me to think everyone is so frugal. But seeing this in real time playing out. I realize exactly how frugal and how much people on SA stretch a dollar without really trying. Many on here and other blogs were "mustachian" before mr money mustache. I also realize that my DK1 is naturally more frugal and conscious because of the way we travel and live that waste is not happening even when traveling.

While cutting my hair today, I wondered how hard it would be for a woman to DIY cut her own hair. As a man the hardest part especially since I live alone and cannot ask another person to cut my back head/neck area, I hold a small mirror while looking into another medicine cabinet mirror backwards all at the same time using my other hand trying to cut a straight line for half of my back head/neck, then switching hands and cutting the other half in a straight line. I usually get it cut in a straight line but sometimes it's a little uneven but easy to fix just cutting more of the longer part to match the shorter part. For woman with long hair I imagine doing it yourself is easier than short hair for the back and just grab a ponytail and cut off the desired amount. The front should be easy while looking in a mirror. The sides should be easy too. Any women here DIY hair cuts? I imagine it'll be crickets though, lol.

My wife and daughter both cut their own hair.

My husband cuts mine. Not what you asked, but it's still free.
