Why are so many people helpless?

It just seems like a lot of people need to have their man card revoked.

What I did this weekend because I can...because its easy...and because its quicker than calling someone. Hung up/wired 2 ceiling fans, installed flood light, installed hall light and finished painting ceilings. Not difficult...3 or 4 wires...didnt get electrocuted, black goes to black, white goes to white...copper/green are ground. Not time consuming at all. Saving money wasnt even a factor...it was easier than calling someone, waiting for them to show up, etc etc.

It boils down to one of these 2 cases.

"I'd rather pay someone because:
...I'm afraid I'll screw it up
...I don't have the right tools or parts
...I don't feel like buying tools to just use once
...I don't know how to do it
...I won't be able to figure it out
...I don't want to waste my time
...I'm not physically capable
...someone else can do it better
...I'm not interested in learning this
...I can make sure it is perfect before paying the person"

"I'd like to do it myself because:
...I want to stretch myself and learn a new skill
...I want to save some money
...I don't need it right now and am ok if it takes a while to get done
...I get satisfaction from accomplishment
...I might get to feed my appetite for new tools
...I like a challenge and don't mind making a few mistakes
...I want to take my learnings and help others
...I like to figure out problems and how to solve them"
