I had no clue about it but I'm guessing it is a reward for using the Microsoft Edge browser. I had 24,000 lifetime points and redeemed 13,000 points just now for a $10 Amazon gift card. Also, I have a $10 cash back for signing up for Cricket Wireless in June which I'll redeem now and post a confirmation when I complete it. On a side note I will be switching from Crickett to T-Mobile really soon in a matter of days. Check you Microsoft account if you didn't know about it as well. These are some screen shots.

Some quick Googling tells me that it's apparently earned through the use of Microsoft's Bing search engine, Microsoft Edge browser, certain XBox games, and some other ways.
........
So basically, Microsoft has realized that they need to literally pay people to get them to use their sub-par browser & search engine!!!
Actually, they're probably just compensating people for monitoring & selling users' activity data. From a corporate ethics perspective, I can appreciate that. But still, it's hard not to see the hilarity of the other side of what there doing.

That makes perfect sense kork. I use Microsoft Edge browser and Bing, but no Xbox. I did see an Xbox gift card in the redemption center which was the most prominent gift card on display which I can see why now. In my account, I still have 11,000 points so when I reach 13,000 points I'll get another $10 Amazon gift card.

User data is a multi trillion dollar commodity that was nearly worthless only a few decades ago.

I have been missing out on numerous online purchases with that 4% cashback offers from Microsoft (box in upper right corner). I have never activated those offers and always "X" out those offers thinking it was gimmicky. From now on going forward I will be activating those offers which will add up over time. And it's not just Walmart but lots of other websites when I've made purchases that box would appear and I would "X" out thinking nothing of it, I've been throwing away money, lol.

This will be easy money. Just did 30 searches on Bing (ie, Kobe, NFL, Tom Brady, lotto, MLB, NBA, etc) in less than 2 minutes at 5 points per search for the max 150 daily points. Later will set my mobile default browser to Bing to get the max 100 daily points. In 10 days I'll get my additional 2000 points to add to my 11,000 points to redeem another $10 Amazon gift card for 13,000 points, lol.

So close to the next $10 Amazon gift card redemption needing 13,000 points (currently at 12,365), which I'll get to in 2 or 3 more days. In addition to the 270 points max that can be earned in a day searching, they give bonus points for taking short quizzes or clicking on informational sites. Upon attaining that goal, I will return to normal web searching and not be so hyper focused, lol. I would only check my points maybe once every 3 months henceforth, after attaining this next $10 Amazon gift card.

QMM - this brings up an excellent point which I would like the boards viewpoint on.
Arguably getting on Microsoft's point system is fine, but $10 is a relatively low payout in the general scheme of things. So you're correct in going after this $10 reward then throttling back.
So, here is my question: How should on evaluate the financial opportunities one has in front of them?
Do you just rank order them by amount of expected return? And go after the most profitable ones first?james.c.hendrickson@gmail.com

Things which take less than 10 minutes of time or net more than $100? That seems like it would cover a lot of ground regarding little financial opportunities like discussed above that I’ve come across and how I’d prioritize them. Things like filling out rebate forms or participating in a study which doesn’t require much effort.
History will judge the complicit.
