  • I'd Like to Buy Your House !@$#!

Over the last few months I have begun getting more and more spam text messages and phone calls of people who supposedly want to buy my house. I am up to five or six a day, and it is quickly drifting from slightly annoying to down right harassment.

I've tried being reasonable with them, I've tried talking dirty to them, I've ignored them, I've blocked them. I keep getting calls.

My phone number is on the National Do Not Call List, big woop I know.

I've contacted the county clerks office, who transferred me to the real estate office, who transferred me to the tax department. They all confirm my phone number is not on record with them.

I keep my Facebook profile on private.

When I search on haveibeenpwned.com my email address is listed, but not my phone number.

Googling myself I came across clustrmaps.com which has ALOT more information listed about me than I'd perfer with no pay wall.

Any general thoughts on how I can reduce the spam callers and or remove myself, as much as possible, from public record? I understand the horse is out of the barn, but all the same I'd like to close the doors.

Do the text messages say I want to buy your house. Or do they say I want to buy your house at [exact address]?

if the first one then it is probably phishing. And when you reply they now know they have a real person and probably share that detail with others.

    I delete them

    YMMV

For the site clustrmaps.com I was able to navigate through their removal forms. My details still pop up on goggle with a link to their site, but the page on the site is now blank. But it is just one of dozens of such sites.

I have also found voteref.com which list me and my address, no phone number.

Also my father's obituary from over 10 years ago still pops up. I don't know if that is bad form to suggest that it be taken down. It list family members and home towns.

I've known for along time there is a lot of information about us out there, but the more I look into how much information there is on myself, the creepier it gets.

Have you tried googling your phone number or address to see what comes up? -Then work with Google to bury or remove those results.

Biggest thing is....don't answer. Don't respond or reply. That confirms for anyone who wants to use or resell your information that you are a live one who picks up and/or responds.
          History will judge the complicit.

Yeah, I hate these guys. I literally get one of these toads every 1-3 days. Gratefully my phone automatically screens & rejects alot of the calls & texts, but probably 10-20% still get through.

One of these days, I want to just answer the call & demand a +50% kicker then maybe I'll consider it.
