It consumed a lot of my time. I look at my phone enough and playing the flipping game doesn't help. People tend to get obsessed...myself included. There just no free lunch.

At the end of the day, if I want something the money is already there for me to use. How much time do I want to dedicate to earn some extra money. I used to sometimes drive 2 hours one way to pick something up, drive 2 hours back, clean up said item, list it on marketplace, have a bunch of people flake out until someone comes along and buys it. The juice was never worth the squeeze but I just kept on squeezing. The high is no longer there.

OR, maybe I'm just getting lazy as I age. I click a few buttons each month and invest some money and it has grown over the long run. Hard to get excited when a mediocre day in the market can see my accounts grown by $500 or $1k....and a really good day can see an increase of $10s of thousands. And our accounts aren't even that large compared to some on here.
I totally get that. Do we need the money? No, we'd be fine without it. I'm not making anywhere near enough to move the needle, but I'm retired. I need something to do with my days. If I spend some of that time doing something that I really enjoy doing and it happens to earn us thousands of dollars in the process, no harm in that. My wife and I enjoy going to thrift stores and estate sales together too.

    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

    • It's really ridiculous how insanely easy it is to make money with the china sales. We went to a couple of thrift shops today. We spent $38.27. I came home, checked everything, and submitted the purchases to Replacements. Total sale is $291. A profit of $252.73.

Since the first of the year, all 7 days of it, we've spent $149.35 and sold those items for $1,065.00. Almost $916 profit in a week. It's nuts.

      • The reason that I began selling on eBay about a decade ago was to declutter. Rather than throw things away or donate or give away belonging I decided to try selling on eBay and found out that eBay is a great way to declutter and make extra money. I've sold used ebikes, used iPhones, used laptops, new clothing, foreign currency, camping gear, surfboards, broken Invicta watches where people buy it to fix it, basically anything. If it wasn't for eBay I would be over-run with stuff that I no longer want or use any longer. Everyone must have belongings that are just sitting and collecting dust and wondering what to do with it. With just a little motivation and effort anyone can sell on eBay and it actually can become addicting once your things starts selling on eBay.

Good point. Especially as a retiree...it keeps you active and your mind working. And like you said, you're printing money.

My favorite part of it was accumulating things I wanted for essentially free. Flip enough things to completely offset the items I want for myself. I do frequent thrift stores but recently it's just me buying stuff to keep.

I never tried estate sales. I'm not sure I would have the patience for that.

          • My Lenovo 15" touch screen Ideapad 3 just died. Took out the RAM, NVME 256 SSD, & battery. Later will sell the charger & laptop for parts and/or battery on eBay, if it sells.

Woah, great idea. How much do you think the parts will bring?

              • I just checked and some for parts on eBay are asking $50 w/free shipping. I would be happy if mine's sells for the same price.

                • After thinking about it last night, it could be the RAM went bad. After work today I'll swap out the RAM from another laptop to see if that fixes it.

                    • Update: I wish that I could relay good news on the RAM (Viper 32 gb vs original Hynix 16 gb) swap but unfortunately no cigar and same dead frozen screen. Upon boot up I tried multiple times to get to system restore to factory settings as quickly as possible before the freeze up and sometimes I could initiate the system restore but the frozen screen would return.

I’m out of town but I’ll try to take a look later.

Sounds good. The 16 gb RAM from the dead Lenovo laptop is now added to my laptop w/the Viper 32 gb which is in a Dell 15 Inspiron which has a max capacity of 64 gb of RAM. Noticeable increase in processing power with a total of 50 gb RAM. Lightening fast.

                              • It's a couple weeks old news now, but I managed to sell my 10" Orion Dobsonian telescope on Craigs List for $650.

I had it listed at $850, and a lady tried to low ball me at $500 just before Christmas. I told her OK, but then she put in the condition that she didn't want to pick it up for a week. I told her that was fine but I was going to keep my add up until then. Two days later a guy contacted me and said $650 that evening and I said sold. He ended up running about 4 hours late, but showed up with cash in hand.

It was a drop in the bucket compared to the new telescope, but it was nice to recoop a small amount of the cost. It was even nicer to recoop the closet space.
