Have you ever made a major splurge? Here's ours.

We always talk about saving and being frugal. Sometimes you just decide to splurge, though. Let's hear your splurge stories.

Here's ours. This is totally atypical for us, which is what prompted the thread.

A couple of months ago, a special event in Florida that we would love to attend was announced for the end of May/beginning of June. We figured we couldn't go because the following week, we are leaving for a family vacation in Arizona. So we just left it at that.

Little by little, they released more and more info about the event and we (mostly I) got more and more upset that we wouldn't be there. Then on Tuesday (which I learned about yesterday), they announced an extra special addition to the event and I started thinking that maybe we could just fly down for the main party, not the week-long event. I ran some quick numbers and mentioned it to DW today and we decided to go for it. So we're going to fly down on Wednesday, attend the party on Thursday, and fly home on Friday. Then the following Thursday we'll leave for Arizona as planned.

Within 2 hours of deciding to go, I had us registered for the event, bought tickets for the party, and reserved the hotel room. The only thing left to do is to get our flights booked and we'll be all set. I'm figuring the 3 days will end up costing us a little under $2,000 which is a crazy indulgence for us but it's really a once in a lifetime kind of thing.

I spent over $40,000 on a car back when $40,000 was a ton of money, and that was after our employee discount! It was the only car I have ever bought just because I liked it, and the first car I special ordered to get exactly what I wanted. All the other cars are purchased just because it fits our needs. I'm still sad about my husband selling it.

Um, I'd say $40,000 is still a ton of money. My current car was $16,000. All 3 of our cars put together only cost about $42,000. So yes, definitely a splurge.

Yeah, but now a lot of cars are in the $40,000. I remember my parents nearly fainted when I showed them the car, but I was an adult and had the cash for it. Oh, the lectures I received! If I ever found the car, I would buy it again. It is probably scrap by now, though.

Spent 34k on a car last year which is way more than I have ever spent for one.

I have flown to Europe for work 5 times since December at 6k a pop for biz class which isn't my money but sure feels like a splurge.

It's a 235 acre ski-lake chained to another 80 acre ski lake. Next splurge will be a dock but that will not happen in another 3 years. Want a taxable account in the 7 figures before splurging again.

My splurge was when I saw this $33.50 per night room rate so I booked April 16, 17, & 18 at the California Hotel & casino in Las Vegas. BTW the room rate is only part of the splurge if you know what I mean. I've budgeted an additional $500 to splurge (if needed). I'll be driving instead of flying this go around (from Los Angeles).

BTW the room rate is only part of the splurge if you know what I mean. I've budgeted an additional $500 to splurge (if needed). I'll be driving instead of flying this go around (from Los Angeles).

I'm closer to Reno and get a free room for 2 nights at Sands, I can go every week for 2 nights if I wanted, just got home Friday and want to go again.

My splurge would be travel, I've bought a lot of expensive guns and knives but never considered it splurging, always just thought of it as another way to park money and it has been because I've sold off a lot for nice returns.

I've had big splurges but I'm not going to count anything that required financing (like our house).

Three days ago, I spent $12,000 in one day to pay for my wife's maternity stay at the hospital and my business' first quarter taxes.

Later this year, I'll be spending $2000 for a pair of concert tickets so that the same wife can giggle like a school girl when she gets sweated on by the singer on stage.

"Push gifts". It's seriously a thing.

So, I was working on my taxes for many, many, many hours putting extracted data into an excel spread sheet. I was nearly ready to wrap everything up when my *&H!%%H computer crashed on 12 April......

I had to put computer recovery on hold because we left for an Easter trip to meet up with our son....

So, on Monday I went shopping for a new computer, a new monitor and a new printer....and speakers!!! (I've been without sound for ages--just had to read lips. LOL)

I'm back in business! My new desktop has SSD drive. It's so much faster than my old computer (purchased in 2003 ). I did have a passive backup system, so recovery hasn't been too traumatic. (Just a couple glitches I am working through. ) My old monitor was 15"--new one is 25" - so much nicer!
