I was wondering how inflation would affect the cost of the a long term project like this. If you hadn't prepaid, and I'm unsure if most people with their personal homes would, have not prepaid the work, would it be more expensive than when they signed? And would the contract have stated subject to pricing?

Happy to say we are moved into the house now, been in for ten days or so. A couple little odds and ends to finish up.
      a. Painter is here this week painting the un-remodeled rooms where we had stuff stored.
      b. We added a couple custom pieces of casework to match the cabinetry after we got going, so those wont get installed for another 2-4 weeks, but not really affecting us.
      c. Some furniture ordered that hasn't yet arrived.
      d. Landscaping and lawn seeding to do in the spring. Got some grass started but barely.
Otherwise we're living here and it's great. Much bigger, super efficient, wide open house that will be great for entertaining friends and family. Everything is brand new, so we shouldn't have to worry about any breakdowns, etc.

Original projected schedule was 6 months, took 8.5 months to get moved in, but the workmanship is all great so we're happy.
Cost will come in pretty much right on our projected budget. Still awaiting a final bill from the GC to have everything paid for. Took some $$ out of IRA and other $$ from savings and paid cash, so no mortgage.

Now I've got a 27' camper to sell (temp living quarters) at probably the worst time of year to sell one, so we'll wee how that goes.

All said and done .... there were a lot of times we got frustrated or PO'd over last months over minor stuff, delays, etc., etc., but overall I think it's going to be well worth the 8.5 months of hassle.

That's awesome, congrats on the successful renovation!

I've always heard with big projects, you can have your project come in (a) on time; (b) on budget; (c) at the desired quality .... Choose 2, because you'll never get all 3. Sounds like the extra time wasn't a problem, so a win for you all around!

Finishing up the final "extras" on the remodel project today. After the fact, we ordered a custom book case and custom open face closet built of same material to match the kitchen cabinetry. They are installing today.
Only thing left to do will be some landscaping in the spring.

Now that we've live in the new digs for several months, the expense and inconvenience was well worth it.
